In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senates immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...
Highlights from Article:
- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.
- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.
- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.
- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.
- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, The number of jobs in the United States is not static. Its fluid, which is how we want it to be.

I had a nap. It has begun to rain.
I need a nap. It’s still mostly cloudy. I’m hungry but I don’t know what I want. Well, I do, but I can’t afford it... The Walmart here has some awesome fried chicken wings and some stupendous honey-mustard dip. I was disappointed with Albertson’s deli offerings, and because of Busdaddy’s experience with the Walmart he goes to, I didn’t want to experiment. But I bought six wings recently, and a little tub of honey-mustard, and really REALLY wanted to pig out!
I’ve taken care of several things today, and tomorrow, I will vacuum and do the dishes early so the inspection goes well. It’s so much easier to contemplate an inspection here than it was in the studio...GAH!!!
I think I’m going to take a few hours and index the DVD albums so I will know what is where, and how many pages I have to flip to get there. I need to devise some index tabs but I don’t know what will adhere to the pages.
Duct tape? Bill isn’t working on Friday, so maybe we can work out the trip to the Garden after all. It just occurred to me that Tom could drive to the Envirothon meeting and back! Traffic is heavy in the evening, but I don’t think he’d face any hazardous turns.
LOL! Duct tape may work, but who wants to be proud of that!!!
You could get stylish, colored duct tape. Around here, they sell duct tape with the logos of race drivers.
Where would I find that???? Since I don’t window shop and seldom have need for duct tape, I would need specifics. LOL! That’s funny!
(Oh. Wait. It’s the SOUTH!)
It’s in the Walmart. Also duct tape representing locally popular sports teams, professional and college. And “Hello, Kitty.”
Ohno!
Duct tape? With “HELLO KITTY???” ROTFL!
This Walmart is too small. When I’m brave, and my body isn’t plagued by anemia, I will go to the one on Marks Street and see what I can find. It has to be as hugh as the Walmart you frequent.
At Weight Watchers meetings, we often discuss the stock of the various Walmarts.
I should be a fly on the wall!!!
I am so tired of feeling “off.”
The results of some of my tests came back today, but the one I’m most interested in is my CBC, which hasn’t been posted, yet. Everything else is SO in the “normal” range, it’s boring.
I will check again a little later and see what else crops up. I’m glad I didn’t do the stress test...what with the coughing and the malaise, it would have been totally inaccurate.
And THAT is a scary thought, with today’s medical practices.
You should have pinged Darks.
Docs love doing tests on me.
“How can your heart rate drop like that?!”
heh heh heh.
Magic.
Got it. Because I’m “overweight,” doctors admonish me to “cut out cholesterol.” Right. My cholesterol this last time was 112 and my triglycerides are 34. So to “them” in the medical family, I give a loud, robust raspberry!
And with that, I’m off to bed. Tomorrow, I’m hoping to find a more benign day...
Yeah, they were baffled by my HDL level.

Strange, but the name 'Dennis Rodman' comes to mind...
Along with many others of course...
but Rodman was the first name that jumped in front of the bus when I read this quote... ;-)
Sean Penn?
