In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senates immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...
Highlights from Article:
- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.
- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.
- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.
- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.
- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, The number of jobs in the United States is not static. Its fluid, which is how we want it to be.

May as well go for...
...1800 *sigh*
Didn’t make it.
I have to get some milk. I need other things, too, but they will have to wait for another day. The post orifice is on the way to Walmart, so it’s no biggie.
Maybe getting out for a few minutes will give me some incentive...hahahaha!
I will pack up some books when I get back so I can sent them off to a niece on payday. Poor thing. Acts like she’s never had a book in her life, and I know better! LOL!
I’d just put everyone to bed, but we really need baby wipes!
baby animals are cute as a survival mechanism
Awwwwww.... Good morning!
This must be the real Monday of this week. I thought I was going to just stop at the post office and put the box in the bin, but it wouldn’t open.
I had to wait in line until 0900 when “they” decided to open. (They used to be open at 0800.) I got to the window and asked why the bin wouldn’t open, and the clerk said, “Oh. This is priority, not flat rate, so you need to pay another $1.80 so this can go. You know it’s priority, right?”
I looked her right in the eye and asked her if that answered my question. Oh, no, it didn’t, so I guess the bin is full. Unnnnnghggghhh!
Rather than go to Walmart and walk all the way to the back of the store for a quart of milk, I thought I’d stop at Circle K for it. All I could find was an off-brand in a plastic bottle, and I’m not sure that’s going to taste very good.
Just as I pulled into the parking space, I saw the manager and three men come around the corner of my apartment. Pest control. The day before an inspection, they send pest control in. We only get it every three months, now, which means the pests are going to be pesticating without shame for loooong intervals. So I’ll just get my Black Flag and kill the little wuzzers.
And that little jaunt into the cold dry air made my cough worse... *kof-kof*
Sounds quite a bit like my day so far.
Why don’t you try permutations or probability theory? (This from someone who knows zilch about math.)
You have whatever sympathy I’m not using for myself!
I just can’t seem to make this all come together, today. Dang...
Don't know what that will do for exes and zeros, but the probability that my ancient Deere will not start is approaching 100% as an upper limit.
Why? Because we're scheduled for a gift of 4 - 6 inches of solidified glowbull warmthing...
The advance party is already performing recognizance from the sky in preparation for the full assault on the area...
I get rid of that stuff as soon as it shows up. It's like junk mail. I don't need it.
Of course, if it's for someone else, then I pass it along.
It must be coming up from your south, because I’ve got three inches down here already.
I can have a Pity Party any time I want one. What you most likely don’t know is that they have a time limit. Fifteen minutes is the max, and then it’s on to bigger and better things! LOL!
It’s mostly cloudy today, the barometer is dropping and I want a LONG nap!
The results for part of my tests are in, but I’m waiting for the blood test results. I’m not optimistic about that...
Days like today, I would like to have about $200-$250 so I could just get in the truck and DRIVE! It would be nice to go to Utah or Arizona, but I would even consider Colorado. Beyond that, though, I won’t consider it. Still, it would be nice for a mini-vacation to visit with my niece, nephew and Bro-in-law for a day or two. The latter will always comp me a room at the resort!
Long naps scare me.
Yah...I’ve been managing on “power naps” of 15-45 minutes, but recently, I had a four-hour nap and a day or two later, I had a three-hour nap. THOSE scare me! That’s a HUGH block out of the day that I not only can’t account for, but can ascribe nothing productive to. Go figger...
GeronL writes movie scripts while sleeping. Now, that’s productivity!
lol!!
'Zactly.
New Joisey, Manhatten, Longuyland, and Connectigut are in the dark blue. We're in the light blue and Scranton and Binghamton, which usually get hit before us are in the clear.
It's not really flaking with malefic intent so I'm not thinking it will even get to the four inches.
We have a 'winter weather advisory' but East of us on the other side of the Hudson they have a winter storm warning...
All for the better considering that the Olde Deere is being cranky... ;-)
