Dispelling Myths: The Case for Immigration Reform [Enjoy your made-in-America ZOT, troll]
Red Dirt Report ^ | 12/27/2013 | Brian Woodward

In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senate’s immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...

Highlights from Article:

- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.

- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.

- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.

- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.

- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, “The number of jobs in the United States is not static. It’s fluid, which is how we want it to be.”

Mine, being a Subaru, is perfect mechanically but only one stereo speaker works and the radio starts to overheat if you play it too long.

The stereo worked fine when I first got the vehicle in February, last year. The alarm also worked. But with the heat, the alarm would sound at 100 degrees, and the radio only worked sporadically.

Now, neither of them works, so I’m thinking it’s the wiring. It was probably fine in the moist climate of Puget Sound, but here in the desert, it has most likely dried out and cracked, so I need to get my son-in-law after it. If I can snag him...

I can’t sing unless I have music! LOL!

I just got back from my CBC, and tomorrow will have the chemical stress test, which I don’t want. I’m scheduled for an inspection on Wednesday, so I have to do a little clean-up work today. Nothing major. I just wish I felt up to it.

Your mind has too much structure to crumble and work will expectorate you rather than eat you if you hold it in appropriate regard. It’s all in your perspective. Recovery’s a bear, though.

I had another strange “movie-like dream”

I should probably write down the outline before I forget

Under-Class

Josh is 18. Josh was abandoned, his parents couldn't afford to keep him even though he still had months left before graduating. He stayed in the apartment until he was booted out by the management.

The economy is in shambles and had been for years and the number of people living in old cars and on the street was enormous. There is no longer any real government assistance to regular people without contacts or without some kind of victim status, even then it was meager.

Josh had always thought it was important to finish school but it appears now that he had been living in a dream world. Real-life wasn't something that school taught you to survive in.

Then one day an old scraggly man dressed as a preacher directed Josh to "a place that might help". It was once a warehouse, the parking lot was now blocked off by concrete pillars and slabs. There was a gate though with a sign:

"Young Adults: Work to Eat"

There was a boy and a girl manning the gate and the guy named "Brody" who called himself "Officer Brody" gave him a perfunctory tour of the place.

The exercise and meeting yard was outside, there were a lot of young adults talking and sitting. Inside the warehouse had been subdivided into small rooms. In the old days it would have been called a "flop house".

Officer Brody introduced him to Council member Bunny, a blonde girl. She told him there were specific rules and these were enforced. "This is no anarchy".

Work. Those with outside jobs contributed part of their income, those without worked inside. Those who did not work were ousted, called "exile". Some still attended school and these were allowed to work after school.

He noticed that a lot of them had nicknames. He learned that many of them had been "abandoned" and chose to no longer identify with their parents by taking on new names.

He noticed that a few of the residents had computers of varying age. He also saw a girl selling copies of a magazine called Under Class. Her name was Kate and she seemed exceptionally normal to Josh, he took an instant liking to her.

There was a board where the names of the residents were kept but there was also a list of former residents. One name was all by itself. "Tae-Boy". No one wanted to talk to him about Tae-Boy, eventually he learned that Tae-Boy had gone missing in mysterious circumstances.

A few of the old-timers made life for Josh hard, like Slash and Blade, they liked to bully the newbs and throw their weight around, mostly when no council members or "Officers" were around.

On the walls around the courtyard there were messages scrawled, some of them seemed meaningless. He spotted some magazine pages glued to the wall too, one of them was e-paper with an animated advertisement for a USB memory card.

Kate taught him more about the community and their little society. He asked if it was like a commune and she laughed, said others called their place "Galt".

"But we didn't escape from society, we were all pretty much thrown out when society collapsed"

Josh witnessed a council meeting after Blade was caught too many times abusing other residents and stealing. At the meeting all of the residents who had been scared to rat out the bullies poured it on. The decision was clear, and a vote was held. Blade was kicked out.

Eventually it became clear that some of the messages scrawled on the walls were related to the disappearance of Tae-Boy. Josh began a real investigation as well as he could and it became clear that some did not want the truth to be revealed.

Kate tried to defend Josh but the whispers and complaints, even writing a feature story in her magazine. He was accused of opening old wounds that would splinter the community. "There is no where else to go, who wants to live out there?" Slash, now acting like a politician or lawyer instead of a regular bully, told the council, "Josh needs to stop or he needs to go. Tae-Boy is gone, he isn't coming back and destroying this community isn't going to make anyone better off"

The residents were wearing their colorful sweats, lined up in the courtyard as if to exercise but this was for the voting to remove Josh. Kate though demanded the rules be adhered to. Josh deserved his say.

The e-paper advertisement for the memory card, he remembered, was exactly the USB that council member Bunny wore around her neck. Those who refused to talk about Tae-Boy seemed to defer to her, come to think of it. He asked her if she was related to Tae-Boy.

He was her brother.

Now things started to make sense. "That was his USB stick?" he asked, she nodded.

He placed his laptop on the council table and she handed it to him "We could never access it". That is what the other clues were for. Running around the courtyard, looking at scribbling or carvings he gathered a couple of possible passwords.

One of the other council members objected. "This isn't a defense", Bunny told him to shut up.

The only thing on the USB was a video of that council member and Slash and his gang discussing ways to take over the community. They mentioned that Bunny and Kate would have to go. Tae-Boy would need to go first, "He is protective of Bunny". "That is what sewer pipes are for" Slash says in the video

Slash uses Kate as a human shield while his buddies fought with the "officers". The other council members subdued the one from the video. Bunny got to hit and stomp him a few times without objections.

Josh met Slash at the gate, he pushed Kate into Josh and escaped. Escaped into the dangerous city.

Later: A sort of plaque had been installed for Tae-Boy, new rules had been made to keep potential bad people off the council. Kate and Josh were now Council members.

Under Class magazine reported that former member Slash had gotten himself caught between two gangs in a fight and had perished. The topic of the next meeting was safety going to and from work or school.....

Like I said, sometimes my dreams are like movies and I try to remember them, or at least the outline.

Looks like you’ve captured the entire script of the dream.
Read like the start of a tv series.
Was it in colour?

The last one I tried to write out here was less detailed. It involved a man trying to remake an ending to an unfinished movie from the 30’s, so the ghost of the actress could finally Rest In Peace.

I’ve altered history in dreams.
My favourite was giving the usurper , king Stephen, a good drubbing as he headed east out of Gloucestershire.
How an MG42 got back to that era ... no idea, but it was effective!

I had a dream once where I was riding on top of a tank in a long column of armor and air support moving in on the Washington DC area. There were also armored columns moving in from the north and south.

We were having a coup!!!

You where standing through the sun roof of a Redneck tank.
A Pickup truck full of the duck dynasty clan. Woohoo!

It could happen.

I note there is a disturbance in the farce, er, force in this end of the country. It's probably an advance party for a voter portex, er, polar vortex..

But never fear, out government will dig us out.
