A young student stands in the front of my classroom ready to perform. The students have just turned in their journals which contain four types of entries: literary, current events, composition, and creative. Students must present one of the entries to the class and this young man chooses to present his creative entry. This particular student is one of the really good kids; polite, eager to learn and participate, well-spoken, and hard-working. To enhance his performance, he asks the class for a beat. They all concede and begin to pound the table in a rhythm I have heard thousands of times before: in my class, in movies, driving down the street, on the radio I sometimes let my children listen to. It is a primal beat, the most basic one can imagine.

Astonishing.
I go so far back I remember when the song “Slow Boat to China” was condemned by the Archdiocese of Boston.
You are right——we are doomed’

Noticed an interesting phenomenon while listening to some of the “lighter” entertainment than rap, contemporary pop songs. You can’t really dance to current pop music, it isn’t a dance beat, it isn’t rock music, it’s a march. It sounds more appropriate to a marching band or a military drill. Anyone else noticed this?
OMG! The “Beats”! I taught in a predominately black school district for 10 years. That’s all those kids did was beat on their damn desks! Sometimes they didn’t even realize it, the blank stares. It was automatic. It was just mindless. Sometimes I would see them pick up a pencil sideways with their hand poised and give them a look or call their name and break the trance. They would say, “But I gots ta have mah beats!” I used to say, I’ll give you a beat you won’t forget, now knock it off and focus! I never allowed it, they would start and if they didn’t stop, there was a consequence. And then the middle schoolers would always want to show me how to beat. The beats - that drove me up a wall more than anything.

I’m struggling to find a difference between the Knockout Game and the ultra-violence of “A Clockwork Orange.”

What’s the point? My post would be removed before the ink was dry.
Perhaps only the race of the miscreants.

I recall several months ago that you shared some of your experiences in attempting to teach negro youth. I believe you have more than enough experience to write a book that spells out the festering mess that belies the bleating ‘Diversity is our strength.’
I find it difficult to understand why FR’s Admin Moderators arbitrarily chop up articles we post. The meaning is destroyed and many of us don’t have the time to go back to the link and read what a poster considers worthwhile.
Why not have ‘moderators’ post all the articles and then we’ll comment on their postings. That way they’ll have only articles that express content that is pleasing to them.
I have been a contributor both in posting and commenting on articles for a few years now. Additionally I contribute money to keep this site up and running. I view this mangling of articles to be dictatorial and unnecessary.
The reposting of this essay was inspired by Michelle Obama inviting a rapper to perform at a poetry event at the White House. The rapper, Common, is a filth monger very similar to the rapper cited below, Lil Wayne.
Hey Michelle, your taste in music is despicable and you need to keep your filthy, degenerate rap-trash friends out of the Peoples House. And dont you dare tell me that I simply dont understand your culture. I understand your culture completely. It is rotten to the bone and satanic to the core. The race card has been officially maxed-out, Michelle. You have cowed good, decent people of all colors and races in this country for decades into tolerating filth and evil in our culture. But that era is over now, Hon. We have had enough, and WE WILL NOT BE COWED AND INTIMIDATED ANY LONGER. We are here, we never left, and we are mad as hell, so you and your filth-peddling friends better step back. And take your Godforsaken rap noise back to the gutter with you where it belongs.
Her “culture” kills someone, literally, on a daily basis in her hometown.
Why isn’t she worrying about that rather than what kids eat for lunch at school?
I’ll go for it -
the urban culture is promoted by the left as an anti-Western/Christian movement to destroy the influence of God’s Law in our society.
Yeah. Especially when some mentally deranged idiot pulls up beside me at a traffic light with the volume on his radio turned all the way up to share his rap crap.
Well, how kind of you to remember! And yes, I certainly COULD write a book! LOL!
That wasn’t a coffin? :p
