GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The Affordable Care Act website will be taken down this weekend so experts can try to fix some of the glitches in the system.
The website was unveiled in the beginning of October, and millions of Americans have been struggling to use healthcare.gov to shop for health insurance.
Not only are the users having problems with the system, but health insurance companies have also run into technical glitches.
Insurers say they've only received a handful of applications and they're getting duplicate applications, missing information and data without a time stamp.

Exactly!
What if you have to have major hospital & meds? Cancer or by-pass?
” ...the administration needs at least 7 million people to join the exchanges for Obamacare to be financially viable. “
When has this administration ever given the slightest thought to what is “financially viable”?
This is why we can’t wait for Obama care to collapse, the Dear Leader will keep it running no matter how much of a financial black hole it becomes. Dollars? Crunch all you want, we’ll make more!
did anyone enroll obamacare successfully here?
“. Not to get off topic but why the hell would they outlaw such plans? I am a bit dense I guess and I just dont get it.”
Catastrophic care policies were what most young people get. It covers you only if you actually go into the hospital for something major. They did away with them because they need the young, healthy people to finance the people who are already sick. One thousand a year simply won’t do that. They need everybody spending 10 to 20 times that.
“What if you have to have major hospital & meds? Cancer or by-pass?”
Then, I’ll get Obamacare. They can’t refuse you for a pre-existing condition. This was part of the Death Spiral concern insurance companies had that people would get sick, buy insurance, get well and drop it. I’ll contribute to the Death Spiral.
Because if they don't gouge the young and healthy, the numbers don't work out. Actually the young (under 30) can still get catastrophic coverage, but it isn't subsidized.
The salient part of the article that explains the title seems to be missing from the posted excerpt.
Make that 7 million HEALTHY people.
I enrolled in my state plan using paper form. Already approved and we received new insurance cards last week (effective 1/1/2014).
“Then, Ill get Obamacare. They cant refuse you for a pre-existing condition. This was part of the Death Spiral concern insurance companies had that people would get sick, buy insurance, get well and drop it. Ill contribute to the Death Spiral.”
The problem with that thinking is that there is a window of time for enrollment and if your need for medical care is not within that window, you are SOL.
Nice try.
This is 100% democrat created.
Don’t even think about trying to blame this on the TEA Party, republicans, or anyone on the right.

I suspect you’re going to see a lot of medical touristing. Also, I expect that many doctors will fire their insurance staff and go cash-only. I’ve read that’s happening in Massachusetts. (I’ve also read that Mass. is considering pulling the license of any doctor who won’t take Romneycare.) But I intend to do my part to make Obamacare fail.
Isnt there some way to really force people who really dont need Obamacare to sign up for it anyway, to make the system work, to fund it?
That’s how social security and medicare work so great now.
OK,So my guess is they will fall back on paper.Bet they do a giant mail out.Just a guess.
The penalty is phased-in over a three year period.
In 2014, the penalty will be the greater of 1.0% of taxable income or $95 per adult and $47.50 per child (up to $285 per family).
In 2015, the penalty will be the greater of 2.0% of taxable income or $325 per adult and $162.50 per child (up to $975 per family).
In 2016, the penalty will be at the greater of 2.5% of taxable income or $695 per adult and $347.50 per child (up to $$2,085 per family).
For Obamacare to work it must have the young and healthy sign up. The young and healthy will be fools to sign up. The penalty for not having insurance is very small compared to the cost of the policies and in particular if you are well paid as you will not get a subsidy.
Since there is a no preexisting exclusion in the Obamacare law, if you have a catastrophic illness all you need to do is sign up for Obamacare and you are home free.
The no preexisting exception is what will doom Obamacare.
Young people have a “bullet proof” philosophy about health. About the only reason they get health insurance is because it is free or they are afraid of great injury in an auto accident. Their premiums a low because of their good health.
The real way to look at it is, “Do you want to pay a small fine or have 5000 dollars to spend on whatever you want to spend it on.
OBAMA CARE WILL FAIL!
Naw. Just incompetence and bad planning. My guess is that the decisions were made by government employees for political reasons and suggestions and warnings from the technical people were ignored. By the time this got down the road a bit, the management of the contracting companies were just saying “no problem”, we’ll do it just EXACTLY the way you’ve asked. Just sign this cute little waiver.
I’m not certain they can deny you enrollment. The code provides for the fine (excuse me, tax) if you are uninsured for so many months of the year. So obviously, it assumes that you can remedy that at any time by getting insurance.
