A 24-year-old Montreal student is being detained in the Philippines after taking part in an anti-government protest in July.
Kim Chatillon-Meunier was about to leave the South Asian country Friday when officers from the Bureau of Immigration arrested her at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila. The Université de Montréal student was in the Philippines working with women in a Manila slum on an internship funded by Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada. During the internship, she also joined several humanitarian and political groups.
Chatillon-Meunier acted as a delegate to the International Conference on Human Rights, which culminated in a protest against the alleged human rights abuses of Filipino president Benigno Aquinos administration. The July rally saw hundreds of riot police clash with protesters in the streets of Manila.
This is blatant harassment and a violation of Kim Chatillon-Meuniers fundamental rights, including the right to free expression, says Malcolm Guy of the Centre for Philippine Concerns, a Montreal-based activist group. It is also a clear violation of Kims right to study and support human-rights issues in the Philippines.

Isn’t Canada one of those “free” places where you can get arrested for speaking out about religions and gays? And why should the Philippines allow outsiders to come in and talk trash about their government? Personally it pisses me off that we allow foreigners to come to America and trash our country and system of government.
Very briefly there was official Martial Law in Montreal, long ago:
How would Canadian authorities have viewed things if Phillipinos showed up there, giving council to people kidnapping MPs...?
Would they simply giggle? No.
What? Give up an opportunity to get more frequent flier miles on Air Force One? Surely you jest!
I'm a guy living here in the Philippines these days. I live on the island of Leyte, which thankfully is far away from Manila. He's just continuing to thumb his nose at those of us peons not part of the jet set. We're just the people who pay for those pretenders to travel far and wide for no other purpose than to be away from the realities most faithful must face in the states these days.
He has succeeded far beyond what I believe that even he thought possible. He has not only transformed America, he has devastated it in every possible way. He is a large part of the reason why I live here now. Between the Bushes, Bubba, and Zero, we have seen America traveling toward obscurity on the world stage. George W. Bush spent money like a drunken sailor. Obumbo makes George W. look like a piker. They have placed a debt greater than all the presidents before them on our posterity. The ancient mariner only had a bird around his neck. The future of America is in doubt if those people have their way.
But, even here in the Philippines, things are not perfect. Corruption is rampant and Islamist rebels are taking hostages in the South. But, I can stay away from Manila and Zamboanga, and continue to pray for America and deliverance from the evil that has descended into Washington.
In the second year of Obumba's pResidency, I set up a website (wherezobama.com, inactive) to track his comings and goings around the world. In his first 18 months, he was well over 200,000 frequent flyer miles, at a cost in the $billions$. I gave up following! Wherever he goes, there are advance teams and planeloads of equipment, vans and limousines, helicopters and Secret Service personnel, along with all of the people necessary to take care of all that, as well as the hangers-on that travel with him.
Pray that God will have mercy on America and deliver the people from their evil government!
Reminds me of something that happened 10 years ago.
That’s the girl?
Damn... makes me wanna hop a plane and rescue her.
Okay, good for you sonny. You just keep your anti-RKBA gutless butt over there. We here in America will continue to fight the good fight. When the SHTF.....have a nice swim.
???
I have probably "fought the good fight" more than most. I was a Republican "Tea Party" candidate in WV in 2008. I lost to a well-funded Dem friend of the unions. As for RKBA, God has a pretty good arsenal, and my guns are still used on a regular basis at the gun club, where they are stored. Once I remarry, my wife can keep them at home...
When the SHTF, I'll be relaxing at the beach near my home! The only "dark clouds" we have are in the sky! Yours are flitting around on Air Force One!
Retarded Canadian Receives Just Deserts in Philippines There, tidied it up a bit.
Hey pecker wipe, you have no idea how things work....so just keep quiet and don’t attract attention to yourself..
Buy the ticket, take the ride.
Get lost junior.
You have to store your weapons at a gun club until you remarry???? That’s rich. You can relax on your little beach begging for help from America, or anyone else, when the SHTF. The islamic rebel muslims are getting a little close are they? Well, I suppose you could always throw rocks at ‘em when the time comes. My view from up here in the mountains, especially in the ‘snowy times’, is second to none in my opinion. I lived right on a beach on Kauai for a while a LONG time ago. I wouldn’t go back there for anything. I will stay right here in America, where I was born and where I’m gonna check out. Sure we have problems here but It is still the best Country on earth. Oh yeah, be sure to say hello to your anti RKBA pal obama if he ever makes it out to your place.
It's just now 6am in the Philippines. I turned onto the FoxNews channel to watch The Five. What I saw was the news of another shooting on another military base in AMERICA. Many dead, many wounded, but at least the shooter is one of the dead.
It looks like the SHTF in Washington DC this morning. All is quiet on the beach. How is that RKBA working out back there? I had not noticed this reply from the other day among quite a few different posts to me. You make a sweeping statement that the Islamic rebel Muslims are getting a little close, but have no idea apparently about where I live and where the Muslim problems exist. I live in the middle of the archipelago on the island of Leyte, specifically in Ormoc City. The Muslim problem is specific to the southernmost portion of Mindanao In the city of Zamboanga. I was born in Wilmington, North Carolina. That's about the same distance to Washington DC.
I am a Christian. I'm not looking to die anytime soon, but know that it is inevitable. In my heart, I have complete peace and assurance that when I die, I will be with God for eternity. So, I do not fear death. I do not look over my shoulder for any bogeyman. I can relax on my little beach and never would think to call, certainly not beg, for help from America or anyone else.
I left from the snowy covered mountains of West Virginia, and chose this warm paradise where I now live among simple people, with the lifestyle of comfort and convenience, lacking for nothing. America was the best country on earth when I was born. America was the best country on earth when I grew up to be a man. But, I have seen the decline over the years, and now I cannot say the same.
There is a puppet government in Washington DC intent on bringing America further down, and bring about social justice. It is a racially charged group that have an agenda which allows one group (blacks) to flout the law and make life hell for white people. Government agencies have become tyrannical while slowly choking the life blood of business and industry. It is not the same America, and if it is possible to rebuild it to its once great status, it will take many years.
Looking at it from my viewpoint, I know that there is little that will change for the better. The middle class has seen its wealth destroyed, jobs are difficult to find unless you want to flip burgers, and houses sit empty because people had to make the choice of buying food or paying their mortgage. Sure, they probably took on too much debt and made poor decisions, but too many people had to move their possessions into storage lockers and seek shelter somewhere else.
This I have been blessed in my life. As a general contractor and real estate developer, I accumulated wealth. But, money does not buy happiness, nor does it guarantee peace of mind. I put the bulk of my estate into a family trust, set up three different foundations for charitable purposes, and chose to find a comfortable place for when my time comes. I can live pretty well here in a five bedroom house with a full-time housekeeper and cook, a combination driver/yard man, and all the fresh seafood and vegetables I can eat. I can roast a pig and douse it with my own homemade North Carolina style barbecue sauce, and buy beef tenderloin for 280 pesos per kilo (that works out to less than three dollars per pound). I don't need a gun in my hand or closet for security. In my neighborhood, there is no need. I sleep well at night and walk about freely during the day.
So, feel free to enjoy the snow. I have plenty of mountains here, as well, to enjoy. They are not too big to climb, and you're the one stuck with Obama & Co.! He is only coming here to visit and then he will return to command the destruction of America.
Good luck with that!
What happened in DC was not a SHTF event. Just another example of evil and of what happens to people who think like you and don’t believe they will ever need a firearm to defend their lives. They chose to work in a ‘gun free zone’. They chose to live in a very anti-gun area. They were sitting ducks. I feel terrible and pray for the survivors and their families. I pray that the dead knew the Big Guy. The RKBA is never more front and center than after an event like yesterdays. You say you do not need a gun. Fine, but I will bet that the first and maybe last thought that will go through your head as you are forced to watch a home invader, (and no, don’t try to tell us all their is no violent crime in the Philippines), rape and torture your wife, child, grandchild or yourself is...”I wish I had a gun”. I know the big guy also. I have peace and assurance also but I will not meekly submit to an attack just because I know the Lord. He wants us to fight. To not give up without a fight. I hope you didn’t hurt your arm patting yourself on the back. You are far from the only person who has had a wonderful life, accumulated well, and hard earned money, planned for family’s future and has been involved with charities. I know more than a few such. Myself included. If you think you are ‘out of reach’ of muslim rebel violence because of your location you are not thinking clearly at all and that is on the square. Those muslim rebels causing hell over there could close that distance between you and them you claim very quickly if they chose to. The last thought you might have as your head is being sawed off by one of those muslim savages is “I wish I had a gun”. Sure America has problems but I will stay here and try to help right the course. I’m not running away. (I could live anywhere I chose to but I Ret. here and here is where I’m staying). America is worth fighting for. Who knows what is going to happen here in America? Things look very bad right now and we agree, Obama and his muslim brotherhood pals are destroying America, but when the big ‘Reset’ happens here and the SHTF, (and it is coming, the financial collapse is a mathematical certainty per all of the big money men and it will impact the entire world’s financially intertwined countries, the Philippine included), I’m going to be right here and possibly going down for the count.....but it will be ‘going down swingin’, (whatever/however that swingin’ might be I do not know) for my country, America. Hell, we all gotta go sometime, (I’m in perfect health for my age but you never know, health can change quickly... and at any age), trying to help save the Country that has given me a long rewarding life sounds like a damn good way to go I suppose and if that sounds corny or silly...oh well.
First, I will try to address some of your rant, after trying to read it. I will tell you that this is not a gun free zone. It is not an anti-gun area. If anything, I am safer here than just about anywhere in America. I am not worried about your SHTF scenario happening here in my lifetime. This is a better place than the one from which I moved.
Where I live now, little kids can walk about the neighborhood without fear that some pervert would try to take them away. That pervert would quickly be stopped, and likely by a total stranger. That stranger may not have a gun, but the pervert would find himself in peril.
Next, you may know the Big Guy, but I don't see some of the things in my Bible to which you refer. If you think you are out of the reach of Muslim radicals, I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn! I hope you enjoy going down for the count. I'm glad you think there is still a country to save. My life is not dependent on America.
America was home to me for the last 65 years. I chose to make a new home where I can enjoy my latter years in peace and comfort. I came to the Philippines because I believe God led me here, and I'm staying here because I have some things to do. I don't need some jerk sitting in front of a computer monitor or rating me because he thinks he knows better about my life and work. Get over yourself. I don't really care what others think, and I'm only replying, so that others can see how silly some idiots look! Silly only begins to define it!
Get lost you arrogant condescending little bleeding heart stuck up conceited snob. Keep your gutless butt right where it is....we don’t want or need cowards here like you here, one who ran when things get tough over here in America. When the SHTF your defenseless sheeple self can always throw your pineapples or bananas at the bad guys. Say hello to your pal muslim obama when he makes it over....you think alike.
My, anger issues? Maybe you can tell someone that cares!
