Probably because conservatives have both standards and Principles, both of which the left doesn't have. Oh, yes, I agree with you 100%. Conservatives vote for principles. Liberals vote for daydreams, and for pie-in-the-sky promises.

And that right there is exactly the problem with the GOP-E.
Their constant mantra of "Our guy is not as bad as their guy" and yet there is a recent pattern of each successive GOP Presidential candidate being more and more like a Democrat.
Sure, everyone can see that Romney was/is nowhere near as bad as Obama.
That being said, Romney would have move things in a leftward fashion in dangerous ways, both morally and fiscally, that would have destroyed the national GOP, just exactly like he did in Massachusetts.
