Need Advice on Best Choice of Truck (Vanity)

I am going to be needing a prime mover to tow my boat from Washington to New Hampshire in a few months. I will also have to have a trailer built or adapted for my approximately 6000 lb, 27 foot long sailboat. I have trailered this boat before with a borrowed rig but now I need to buy one for the cross country move.

Can't buy new. New trucks just cost too much and I am not certain I would want a brand new vehicle anyway. My budget is probably around $10K to $15K for the truck.

I am thinking of something like a F250 extra cab 4X4 or similar GM or Dodge. After we get to the far side, the vehicle will be used as a farm truck and for towing horse trailers and such.

I have plenty of time so I am open to just about anything including buying a sixties vintage vehicle and having it customized for the purpose. Obviously, it does not have to be pretty but it would be nice to have something with a little style.

OK FRiends. What do you think?

While the Fords (F250/350’s diesel)are certainly good work trucks, I’m surprised no one has mentioned Dodge Ram’s with the Cummins

I owned a 2003 Dodge 1500. I loved everything about it except that it fell apart inside 40K miles. I bought it with 20K on it and I traded it in for the F150 I still have today. I only owned it 8 months. I begged the Dodge Dealer to buy it back from me. They threatened to sue me if I said bad things about HUBLER DODGE & CHRYSTLER. I was so scared...... Fuse Box fog lamps power mirror windshield washer motor transmission ball joints plastic latch in overhead sunglass holder broke plastic latch in armrest storage broke Dashboard light went out Rust on the inside of the rear fender wells I don't know if the truck was resto'd after a flood or what. But after dealing with the truck and the A$$hats at the Dodge Dealership, I will never own another Chrystler product, EVER.

No one can argue against the Cummins being one of the best diesels made.....it simply is, and the very best thing the Dodges have going for them.....
