If anybody wants on/off the revolutionary progressivism ping list, send me a message

Progressives do not want to discuss their own history. I want to discuss their history.

Well! I found a nubbin of info here to explain why a
family member seems hell-bent to get off his bike and
hug every tree he sees. I'm trying to understand his
defense of the stupid stuff that the EPA has dipped into.

Perhaps my gut feeling is correct.. he went to school
too long.

A couple of comments:
One, in this context you may be onto something; with this particular interpretation of the word "conservation" as used by this person, and his followers, it is indeed a sign of a greater and wider context for the use of this term.

Here, in this particular instance, the use of conservation fits into the overall 'progressive scheme' of control. And,as such, fits into your ongoing series.

I also think that the use of "Environment/Environmental" issues by the progressive ilk has a far greater and more damaging meaning for personal liberty than most realize.

What is the "environment"?....Its freakin everything. To gain control and command of the "environment" is gain control and command of everything. Cause for concern I think.

However, I think that this narrow interpretation put forth by your piece here is failing in not declaring that "conservation" can also be a very good thing. And here I am speaking of conservation of natural resources.

The conservation, use and preservation for future generations of natural resources must be a part of the conservative mindset.

While it is wise to be aware of how this 'conservation' effort might, and can, be manipulated for 'darker' political and societal reasons, this is no reason to avoid or negate efforts at conserving and protecting natural habitats for the use of future generations.

Writing in After Seven Years, which was his 1939 account of his role as an advisor the FDR, Raymond Moley credited Van Hise with the underlying philosophy of the New Deal's National Industrial Recovery Act, stating: "The source of that philosophy, as I've suggested earlier, was Van Hise's Concentration and Control, and it was endlessly discussed, from every angle, during the 'brain trust' days. In several of his campaign speeches F.D.R. had touched upon the idea of substituting, for the futile attempt to control the abuses of anarchic private economic power, by smashing it to bits, a policy of cooperative business-government planning to combat the instability of economic operations and the insecurity of livelihood. The beliefs that economic bigness was here to stay; that the problem of government was to enable the whole people to enjoy the benefits of mass production and distribution (economy and security); and that it was the duty of government to devise, with business, the means of social and individual adjustment to the facts of the industrial age—these were the heart and soul of the New Deal…. And if ever a man seemed to embrace this philosophy wholeheartedly, that man was Franklin Roosevelt." [P. 184] -- Wikipedia

If anyone wants to be on or off the Agenda 21 ping list, please notify me by Freepmail. It is a relatively low volume list in which we have been exploring the UN Agenda21 and related topics. We have collected our studies with threads, links, and discussions on the Agenda 21 thread which can be found here:
