The Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal report that President Obama and at least 8 Senators are now calling for a National ID Card, with a computer chip and other biometric features...

Same ol’ plot.
Just like “gun legislation”, these cards are only designed to control and track the lawful citizen, or turn them into criminals for non-compliance.
Gun laws don’t curb feral thuggery but rather enable it, so the effect a National ID card will have on illegals and vote fraud will be the same. Enhanced even.
The National ID (or refusal of one) will make life even more of a PITA for regular Americans but the lawless will as always, operate above the law.
Eh, those voting machines just spit out the desired outcome anyway. All those voters who live in the machines never need to show ID or even pop out for a smoke break.
Passports are not required for a Citizen to simply exist. This “National ID Card” would be.
The truth is that if passports as a national ID were found to be compromised for the purpose of voter fraud or medical or social security fraud, it would no longer be trusted and accepted by other countries.
That's why you'd never see passports used as national ID's.
Politicians want an internal ID that they can compromise for their purposes without concern for international treaties.

‘altering, and grouped’ -
Probably mean alerting, and groped - -
But, yours is much funnier!
On your wrist or forehead.
won’t have to ask. with RFID they can just read it by walking past you.
I really dont have a problem with that. Make your phone number your Social Security number. You would be stuck with it for life unless you followed the same rules for changing your name.
In this way, illegal aliens couldnt own a phone, your identity would always be protected and voting by phone would be the way to vote.
Voting by phone would let the working man vote without taking time off or going home early.
The fun part about this would be that Obamas vote would be that of a dead man.
I refused to provide the documents required to get my license renewed. Now I have a driver’s license with “NOT FOR FEDERAL IDENTIFICATION” on it. It’s as effective as a SS card that says “NOT TO BE USED FOR IDENTIFICATION”.
National ID cards are helpful in maintaining order - or at least that's what Obama's role model believed.
Wonder when American Citizens will get Amnesty like the Illegal Aliens are getting?
“Kind of like the Rs are (were) against abortion but also against welfare etc.....I meant the irony is definitely there.”
No it isn’t. Welfare has nothing to do with abortion.
Most conservatives don’t believe that people who can’t afford to support the children they bring into the world should be allowed to keep them. Welfare is in fact one of the tools used by the left to split the family and damn entire generations to a life of want and despair.
We already have one! I wish these people would STFU and go away already.

We can no longer renew our DL online in GA. Instead we must go to the DMV. [Increased lines = longer waiting periods].
But wait......That is not all. It is not enough to go down and present my license and pay money to renew. I have to prove I am who I say I am even though I have been driving longer than I care to remember.
I need My Birth Certificate and since I am married with different last name I need my Marriage Certificate. Because of federal regulations I will need to submit proof of my identity every time I renew my DL.
Yet no one on the federal level seems to give a rat’s ass about my identity at the polls.

Renewal of Driver's License or Identification Card
The way I read this, you only have to provide ID documentation if you are applying for a GA license for the 1st time or getting one of the new Secure ID compliant licenses for the 1st time. After you have a Secure ID compliant license, you can renew on-line. Changing your name on your license, I think in all states that I know of, require you to appear in person with legal proof of the name change.
I had to do this, provide all sorts of proof of identity when I moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania and got my PA license. It was a PITA as at the time I was temporarily living with my niece and all my stuff including some of my legal docs were in storage and inaccessible unless I moved everything out to get to the strong box buried somewhere in the back and my nephew crawled through the storage unit and still couldnt find it. So I had to order a certified BC from NY, which I was able to do on-line after providing all sorts of info and since I had been married, I had to drive to MD to get a copy of my marriage certificate to prove my name change. I also had to provide PennDot with proof of my address but since I was living with someone else, I had no utilities bills in my name at that address, but they did accept a copy of my bank statement. Again it was a PITA but now that I have my PA license, I can renew on-line in the future.
Yet no one on the federal level seems to give a rats ass about my identity at the polls.
Here in PA we do have a new voter ID law, but it wasnt implemented in time for the last election.
Yeah, it’ll go well with the National Voter ID bill. /s
Thanks Rig4Dive.
Yeah, because my drivers license, birth certificate, passport just arent enough.
If it replaced the other items we need to carry around, I would be for it. All in one card would be great. I carry around a bunch of ids now....military retiree, civilian government, tricare card, drivers license, voter card. One card would be wonderful.
Or better yet, a chip! Something that’s going to leave a mark.
Every premise of that statement is wrong, since any identification system always has failures. Every identification document can be falsified. Clearly the government itself produced numerous false identifications. Does anyone think undercover agents, CIA operatives, and others really carry passports, licenses, etc. that truthfully identify the agents carrying them? Does any smart person think other governments or groups don't do the same thing?
And in the real world corrupt clerks sell false id cards. From what the press reports the price is pretty low, with drivers licenses available for less than $1000 in some cases. False ids are widespread, just work the door at a bar near a college campus some night to see how many there are.
Apart from helping to identify known criminal suspects, security based solely on ID is foolish, since intelligence efforts can't identify every possible bad actor ahead of time. Believing ID is the holy grail of security is like believing nobody will hijack an airliner to crash it - comforting until you learn how wrong you were, but ineffective as a security technique.
Like many ill thought out bills, the Real ID Act generates headaches and costs for law abiding citizens and states with minimal gains in real security.
This could boomerang, if it is used for voting in national elections. so maybe it’s not a bad idea.
