I envisioned Jack as someone who was apolitical. I envisioned him as an ordinary Joe living a ho-hum life until his family was crushed by the Authoritarian Left. Why would anybody want to read something so depressing?
Is your purpose to inspire people with hope, or make them want to off themselves?

Is your purpose to inspire people with hope, or make them want to off themselves? Yeah, the hope that this piece will cause you to get off your duff and begin to do something with the government you have voted in to prevent just such an entirely PROBABLE event from coming to reality. Together with the rest of us, that is. If this is not a depressing story very likely to happen, you need to be reprogrammed. IMHO
