Campuses would be safer if more universities disarmed their students, said some college presidents who attended a conference Monday on reducing school violence.
The annual meeting of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities was attended by Education Secretary Arne Duncan, and college presidents from around the country. One speaker, Oglethorpe University President Lawrence Schall, argued that the best way to reduce campus violence is to prohibit students and faculty from carrying guns.
We believe that more guns makes us less safe, not more safe, he said in a speech.
Schall is the author of an open letter to legislators urging them to oppose legislation allowing guns on our campuses and in our classrooms. Over 350 college presidents have signed the letter.
Such legislation prevailed most recently in the state of Colorado, where proponents of concealed carry laws have argued that instead of making people safer, campus gun bans actually put everyone at greater risk...

Yes, they believe that LEOs are trained professional while non-LEOs are amateurs more likely to shoot themselves or other innocent bystanders — that’s what they think. History does not always support their beliefs. In fact, often times non-LEO citizens are more experienced and more capable with firearms. Think of all the non-LEO IPSC/Three Gun Competitors out there who are not policeman. These people surpass most SWAT members in shooting experience. Regardless what they think, they are causing people to die because of their policies.

In addition, weapons are an absolute necessity in a life or death situation. That's why LEOs carry them.
LEOs are not always at the scene, the potential victim always is. That's why they need to be armed.
“should held responsible and be open to suit by students who are the victim of an attack by gun taking place on campus.”
I wouldn’t limit that to an attack “by gun” for several reasons. It’s incorrect to state that anyone anywhere has ever been attacked by a gun. They are attacked by a violent person wielding a tool. People have a right to defend themselves without regards to where they are and in many cases the use of a firearm would be justified if the attacker were unarmed.
I’d also love to see the same liability extended to all businesses that post their “no firearms” policies. Let them back their liberal ignorance with their wallets.
Police departments, federal LE agencies, security companies and the military should treat diplomas from these schools as an indicator that the graduate is not responsible enough to handle a firearm.
After all, if the institutions responsible for educating their students and preparing them for their careers didn't trust them with firearms, why should the prospective employer?
How about banning all college professors from college campuses?
