America the beautiful, with all its celebration of democratic freedoms, has become a place where children are gunned down in their first-grade classrooms, and teenagers are killed walking home with Skittles and iced tea.
The latest blight on the nation's social consciousness is a massacre of unconscionable proportion: A lone gunman, identified as 20-year-old Adam Lanza, entered a Connecticut elementary school last week and used a semi-automatic rifle to unleash carnage by killing 20 children, all age 6 or 7, and six adults -- schoolteachers and staff. Lanza had killed his own mother in her home, reportedly shooting her in the face, before traveling to the school.
This follows a series of similar tragedies: from the 2010 shooting outside a Safeway in Tuscon, Ariz., to the Dark Knight movie theater killings in Colorado, the massacre at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin -- and eerily familiar stories in Oregon, Washington and California.
The common denominator? Guns.
The recent shootings in Newtown, Conn., have prompted heated conversation about America's firearms obsession. The country seems to have a love affair with guns -- and it is the most vulnerable among us who all too often pay the price.
Sybrina Fulton, mother of slain teenager Trayvon Martin -- whose death at the hands of unofficial neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman caused a national uproar -- spoke exclusively to The Root following the Newtown school massacre. "I feel bad for the families of these little boys and girls," she said. "The parents have a long road of healing ahead."(continued)

Autopsy results, and shell casings at the scene.

It’s a fact that these drug gangs in the inner cities are armed to the teeth with all the guns their drug money can buy. No one is asking, “Why is this?”
When Chicago records 523 homicides in one year, no one is asking, “Why is this?”
Well, I have an answer for all my zero-information Americans: It’s the illegal drug industry that’s driving all the homicides—with the best guns that money can buy (you see, the drug business is big money).
So, I have a modest proposal: Let’s get rid of the drugs.
Keep the guns in the hands of the law-abiding gun owners who will need to protect themselves when the thugs have no drugs to sell and come after our property (which I suspect, Travon Martin was getting prepared to do).
F**CKING LIAR!!!! Trayvon was doing a LOT more than just walking along with his snack when he was shot! Do these scum-sucking “journalists” lack even the SLIGHTEST inclination to tell the TRUTH?
That's exactly what I'm saying and you know it. There is absolutely no way to identify the caliber of a bullet hitting a body based on the entrance wound until the bullet is recovered.
The coroner's statements were made on scene, there had been no autopsies performed.............
If only she were as passionate about raising a decent son. Well, I’m off to buy some skittles and tea, and not assault anyone on the way home.
Ah, but the quantity of casings would have been a strong indicator.
I don’t think we’ll ever get the real details of this incident.
Could be but who reported that?
The “family” should be niggardly with their public comments. They seem quite uninformed.
Not reported, but if the coroner (or police) observed a high ratio of rifle to pistol casings....
Like I said, we’ll probably never know with certainty.
Until that question is answered sufficiently to convince me that an assault weapon was indeed used on the children in the school then I will continue to question all the alleged information that's being put out by the MSM.....
Is that too much to ask?
Adam Lanza committed horrific crimes.
For such, he should forfeit all of his rights.
That is all.
I agree the “gun in the car” hasn’t been clarified, although I have seen mention that it was a Mossberg 500 shotgun (which would look like an “assault weapon” to the MSM).
And yes, it is too much to ask for information without bias and an agenda from the MSM. ;)
Happy New Year.
Guess what the ‘common denominator’ in about 95% of the
crime in my general vicinity is? (hint:not guns)
Are they white hispanics?
