BERLIN — As President Obama and Mitt Romney prepare for a Monday debate on foreign policy and polls show the Republican challenger with a real chance of victory in two weeks, many observers abroad are saying: Wait, what?
From Europe to China to the Middle East, perceptions of the contest have lagged behind indications that the two men are in a virtual dead heat. Obama remains widely popular abroad, and there are signs that many leaders are unprepared for a Romney presidency.
In Western Europe, few people can imagine Romney in office. In China, officials have been focused on the intrigues of their impending leadership transition, though many worry that both American candidates have been beating up on their country instead of pummeling each other. And in the Middle East, political chaos has kept many activists and officials from contemplating the election much at all.
In Europe, leaders have good reason to avoid the issue: From the Scottish Highlands to the heel of Italy, it’s Obama country all the way. One survey last month from the German Marshall Fund found Europeans breaking 75 percent for Obama and 8 percent for Romney...

So it wasn't Republicans who swung further and further to the right, it was European conservatives who swung further and further to the left.

I do not know about China. Maybe they were counting on a complete takeover of the USA, under Obumbo.
I think the failing of the political polling game over the last dozen years or so is the reason we get people like Lurch, Obamugabe, Romney, McCain and others of their kind sneaking through the primaries, and then leveraging the general elections.
There are analysts out there who make a living manipulating so-called internal poll results to mislead the big money boys into lubricating political campaigns. The Romans called them Augurs and with plenty of information from their spies throughout the empire, they were able to mislead the whole nation into believing whatever they wished. They were paid well!
The very best of their kind used flocks of birds. Well fed birds, when set loose to fly, will 'drop their load' on the way out of the cage ~ you then observe the patterns on the pavement ~ and work your way into an appropriate prediction, all the while able to blame it on a flock of birds somewhere flying hither and yon in a random pattern well beyond the control of any human being.
They better get prepared, the bowing and scraping and appeasement and free checks in the mail are about over.
My question is, Why would the Washington Post put this out?
Do you think it is to warn the “Around the world” countries they best cough up $ for Obama’s campaign?

What I do remember is all the supposition about “racist America. Will they overcome racism and elect a black man?”
That soured me on giving any thought to what Europe or the rest want. Now they laugh at us thanks to Obama. I like to remind them of their attitudes in 2008. I like to remind them that so many of us were concerned about his radical ties and positions, not race, and they wouldn’t listen to what we had to say.
I can’t say anything about any other country, but Obama’s name is mud in Japan. A Romney victory would be greeted with satisfaction and profound relief.

Franky, I don’t care what the rest of the world thinks. That’s why we have almost 3 months to transition administrations. If someone in England or China or anywhere has a problem with preparing for who our next President is, then that’s their problem.
What makes it worse and what makes this article a pile of turds is every leader in every country probably has a dossier on Romney, his policies, positions, possible cabinet and negotiating tactics.

That is good to hear, Ronin. I have always wanted to visit Japan. Hopefully, someday I will with an American president at the helm here in the U.S.
The Japanese are conservative businesspeople, merchants and workers, so of course they see through Mr. Obama.
Probably foreign leaders have “binders” of info on Romney.
