"Obama-size It!" (Price of Food)

You know, if Romney would talk about the skyrocketing price of groceries instead of just the price of gas, he would score a home run. My wife does most the grocery shopping and has sticker shock -every week portions get smaller and prices are higher.
My take on this is that we need to add a new phrase to the lexicon: "Obama-size It!" Definition: reduce product size by 1/3 and charge 1/3 more.
Anyone who shops to support a family know that our economy has been Obama-sized.

Shameless vanity - an important election is almost here and Romney needs to do a full-court press on inflation. Everyone is feeling it but the media acts like it goes not exist. Romney could awaken a sleeping giant by mentioning it.

“...and has sticker shock -every week portions get smaller and prices are higher.”
This is apparent with generic store brands as well.

I agree! I am shopping for my family weekly and every week i spend more and get less. I’v noticed it for awhile now. Groceries higher, cable higher, electricity higher, gas higher, clothes higher, paycheck less. this is the reason my family suffers. And the cherry on top is my house is worth less!!

In 2010, my weekly shopping list (for just me) cost $53.10, for some specified 17-18 items. Those same items cost $87.66 in 2011, and now in 2012, are $104.15, add'l items subtracted-out. Prior to 2011, I'd never bothered w/ coupons; now I use them all the time. (I do have an extensive 'prepping supply', and that isn't included in any of the totals.)

LOL. You should have seen it *before* I started the clean-up and shelving project, of both sides, 9 weeks ago. It was a horror show. My firearms/ammo is stored in a dbl-door gunsafe and shelves, on the opposite side of the basement. No pics of that area; sorry...

As a beer purchaser myself, I’ve seen the sticker shock there too. But the grocery thing is what really kicks my family budget in the a$$.

Ever since I read on one of the prepper thread links about how to use leaves and grass, I’ve been buying TP like it’s going out of style.

I cant remember when manufactures stopped doing this but I haven't seen in a while where after they downsize the product, they use the old larger packaging until it's gone. I guess people noticed too easily. Now most packaging fits the smaller portions even after they downsize again. Pretty soon they'll have to get rid of terms like bite size as everything we eat will be that, at higher prices than now. Obama would just say for you to buy more.

Easy for him to say while he eats those $45.00 a pound Kobe steaks from Japan!

Hey! That looks like a conventional light bulb there buddy... Obviously you’re some kind of radical.
Not only are prices going up at the retail level, and product size or weight reduced, don’t forget the basic quality itself is also just not the same. For just one example, major branded coffees. I like the fancy stuff too, but mostly we drink whatever’s on sale, Folger’s, Maxwell House, etc. And their “classic” doesn’t taste anything at all like it did for decades.

I remember using leaves & grass in Boy Scout Summer camp, when we ran out, until the adults could get to town and re-stock the camp. There’s over 620 rolls down there now (dbl row up top), plus lots of paper towels. Those 18-roll pack of Scott are cheap and don’t have expiry dates.

“Obama-size It” is a nutshell phrase for what you just described - every damn thing costs more, you get less, and the media is covering it up. I am steamed about it and I am pretty sure 95% of folks that work for a living are.
PS - as a smart friend of mine pointed out, mass-printing of food stamps has got to be contributing to food inflation as well. You are paying with your earnings; someone else is paying with funny money. This has got to be inflating food prices in the same way that government meddling inflates the cost of education, cost of health care, etc.
