All that support we gave them (setting a one-day sales record) and this is how they repay us? Caving in so they could open a single store in Chicago.
Via Washington Times:
Chick-fil-A stopped funding traditional-marriage groups in an effort to open a new Chicago restaurant, but the company initially kept quiet about the decision, prompting gay rights groups to speculate that the company feared a backlash from conservative customers.
The Christian-rooted fast food restaurant agreed to stop funding groups such as Focus on the Family that oppose same-sex marriage in a meeting with the Chicago politician who had been blocking the companys move there. Chick-fil-A wrote a letter to Alderman Joe Moreno affirming this, according to his spokesman, Matt Bailey, but the company initially wouldnt allow his office to release the letter to the public. Three weeks later they relented.
There was concern from them, said Anthony Martinez, executive director for the Civil Rights Agenda, the Illinois lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender group that negotiated with both Chick-fil-A and the alderman to stop funding for so-called anti-gay groups. They really didnt want to announce it, really, but, of course, the alderman needed to clarify why he was changing his stance on them opening a restaurant within his ward.
Chick-fil-A did not returns requests for comment, and has previously said it will not discuss the issue with the media.
Mr. Martinez said Chick-fil-A told the alderman they will no longer fund groups that support traditional marriage through their charity arm, the WinShape Foundation, and will instead use that money toward educational programs and food donations.
The WinShape Foundations is now taking a much closer look at the organizations it considers helping, and in that process will remain true to its stated philosophy of not supporting organizations with political agendas, Chick-fil-A wrote in the letter.
What a public relations nightmare.
And you believe “Mr. Martinez,” the executive director for the Civil Rights Agenda ... why?
Because you’re gullible.
Wow, I have seen a lot of stupid moves by corporate America but this one is in a class all it’s own.
The "good guys" (chicken salesmen) have put their best foot forward; see post #11 here. Notice that they did not deny a report that has now been published widely in the mainstream press, including the hometown paper's business news section.
This is why government only gets worse. This is why the GOP is headed to the dustbin of history. This is why our republic is dead. No one with any authority has cojones to stand up and say “You will not cross this line.”
The martyrs of ancient Rome died for their faith. St. Thomas More was murdered for standing on principle. The early Jesuits died horribly trying to bring the faith to the Indians. Today, in America, no one has the courage of his convictions and will defend them - no matter what.
Guess what - we are already a conquered nation. Wear your chains proudly.
IF SECESSION NOT, THEN REVOLUTION MUST.
I must say I’m really disappointed. Selling out for one lousy restaurant in Chicago.
I will also tell him that my family will not be returning to CFA. Capitulation after how we supported them? SPINELESS.
If the store is built, then they probably caved.
Focus on the Family is not “dedicated” to opposing homosexual “marriage.” That organization existed long before this even became a ballot issue, as a ministry to support spouses/parents in living a Christian life.
untrue.
Big Mistake by CFA. The one who supported their business
are Christians with solid beliefs. The Gays will never SUPPORT CFA.
Bad business move. It makes me regret my support of them.
No more for me.
CFA got “turned” faster than the new Teaparty congresscritters by DC.
The people who do the most good in fighting gay marriage are church groups, family advocates, pro-lifers, Christians, and so forth.
The Catholic position is that we should love everyone, and want what’s good for them. That means that you need to love and sympathize with those who are gay—but not gay activities. Hate the sin, but love the sinner. Since gay marriage is not good for gays any more than anyone else, and since it undermines true marriage, family and children, it should be opposed.
But I think it’s perfectly reasonable to say that they are not focused specifically on opposing gay marriage. Their interests are more broadly Christian. In fact, I presume that their leaders continue to oppose it, but their emphasis is on what is good for marriage, family, children—and also for those with gay inclinations.
The opposition is trying to paint them as gay haters. Of course, they deny that, and rightly so.
if this decision is the actual policy of CFA...just dayum...seems very few are willing to stand firm on principle and tell the dark forces to fornicate themselves...
I am ashamed that I wasted one hour standing in line with a few hundred other regular Americans to show my support last month.
Craven fools.
Their response is excellent; their giving policy hasn’t changed.
They will continue to give money to organizations and programs, for example, that “strengthen families and enrich marriages.” And, of course, they continue to define “marriage” as between one man and one woman.
Please don’t contribute to the defamation of a decent and honorable restaurant.
And I’m ashamed that you consider yourself a FReeper.
What an idiot, believing the spin of a Chicago alderman and gay-rights advocate, over the plainly state press release from CFA.
Please note that Chick-fil-A’s giving policy hasnt changed.
They will continue to give money to organizations and programs, for example, that strengthen families and enrich marriages. And, of course, they continue to define marriage as between one man and one woman.
DANG, FREEPERS ARE SO GULLIBLE! WHEN WILL WE LEARN to not just swallow the crap that the MSM tries to slam down our throats? Idiots.
You are gullible. You believe the spin from gay lobbyists, Chicago aldermen, and the MSM over the clear press release from CFA (which states that they will continue giving money to pro-family organizations and programs).
Hmmm, perhaps the next thing you know they will be open on Sundays, even though the ones running the company now promised their father they would not do that?
