A lot of disappointment across the board about Obamas speech at the Democrats Convention, even from the liberal left. But was he ever a great orator or was it all a myth generated by a compliant media that almost everyone else was afraid to confront?

I have a sister in law who could be his writer. I received an email once from her regarding a 4th of July BBQ that was a full page long. Essentially it said.....bring chairs. She did it on purpose of course but I was cracking up.
No he is not a great orator. He is an affirmative action candidate that is given difference for his color. He is stilted and talks in jive so they allow him accolades he doesn’t deserve.
That sing song, as you call it, is the same cadence a preacher uses. I noticed it the first time I ever heard him speak with the TelePrompTer. I looked at hubby and said.....omg he is preaching to us!
Ask Larry Sinclair. Oh, wait, you said orator.
Remember how he mispronounced the word 'corps' and spoke it as 'corpse' instead?! It wasn't just a slip of the tongue since he said it several times in the same speech.
He often shows himself to be truly ignorant when off-'prompter, but in that speech he showed his ignorance while on-'prompter, as well!
Clinton and Obama are the 2 most overrated speakers of recent times. Colossal bores. When your only memorable line over 20 years is “I did not have sex with that woman” you know you need to upgrade your public speaking skills
>>Somehow, that song was a big hit - because of its pleasing tune. But it’s just like Obama, the words don’t make a whole lot of sense and the popularity came from tone, not content.
That was exactly my point. “Muskrat Love” is a song I still like to hear, but when you listen to the words, its creepy. Thanks for coming up with such a graphic example of Obama’s oration skills. See what I mean, ArrogantBustard?
All I see when he is viewed is that cartoon of this little mousey-looking big ears sitting in a huge chair in the Oval Office.
Maybe we should ask P. T. Barnum.
If you say so, but I’ve always hated his voice and his speech cadence. It’s like nails on a chalkboard.
Obama has a way of speaking using the dialect and cadence of a preacher like Rev Wright but if you listen to the words, they are as empty as the heads of his followers. He’s well versed in the language of marxists and his fellow travelers like Castro and Chavez. If he could, he would lecture for hours like Uncles Fidel and Hugo do but he has the time constraints of capitalist TV. If he could, he would force the government “workers” into the streets of DC to listen and celebrate his greatness and perform feats of synchronized acrobatics in his honor.
Neither have I. I’ve never seen him as a great orator. Boring guy whose cadence is annoying and unnatural, prissy like someone said before. Passionate only when he’s talking about himself, which is 90% of the time. Basically, a bad actor.
Not in MY world.....he’s like a the worst example of a used car salesman....(with apologies to used car salesmen everywhere) At least used car salesmen do not need teleprompters.
"Muskrat Love" sounds good, but has weird words.
Bam-Bam doesn't even sound good. I find his tone and manner obnoxious, off-putting ... not even quite human ... and that's regardless of the actual content.
In sum, I disagree with you about Bam-Bam's supposed oratorical prowess.
>>If you say so, but Ive always hated his voice and his speech cadence. Its like nails on a chalkboard.
That’s because you listen to the words and don’t project your feelings on to his tune. Look at the nation that elected him: his followers think that rap is music, sound bites are news, reality TV is entertainment. They are not people with discerning ears and minds. They are poorly-educated (regardless of what degrees they may hold) ADD/ADHD children who think feelings are more important than facts.
To this audience, he is a siren song. To paraphrase Obama, He is exactly what they’ve been waiting for.
After that Navy "Corpse"man ignorance, I actually read an American state run media article that tried to claim that was the "Harvard" way to pronounce it.
And he is: "What they've been waiting for" is somebody to tear down "Richie Rich" and give them all his stuff. They don't just like 0bama's weird speaking style, they also like what he's threatening to do.
>>In sum, I disagree with you about Bam-Bam’s supposed oratorical prowess.
Disagree all you want. It works for his intended audience. That’s all I’m saying. It doesn’t work on me or you because we listen to words, think, and draw conclusions based on fact.
Basically, his oratory skills are like the aerodynamics of a bumblebee. It shouldn’t be able to fly, but it does.
I have heard ‘black’ preachers using a similar style. Even when I agree with their theology, I find their style and the incessant murmuring of the “Amen Chorus” thoroughly annoying.
Yes ... some folks like it. Some folks like ‘rap’ ‘music’, cubist painting, trash sculpture, and the Dallas Cowboys.
Not all cultures are equal, and some of these things are symptomatic of a diseased culture.
