At this point it looks like I am getting a new ‘clean’ hard drive, I will keep the old one though. I will try see if I can recover the data from the old HD. I will install some type of Linux on the new one while I am also trying to see if I can get the product key/OEM key.

You can check
here, by plugging in the serial, to see if they have the reinstall disc. Then, I would suggest calling them to see if they might supply them at little or no cost.
