Akin: Hyenas in the GOP ignore medical science, eat their own
Rightly Concered Blog on American Family Association ^ | 8/22/2012 | Bryan Fischer

The slavering, slobbering hyenas in the Republican party, by tearing at the flesh of their own senatorial candidate Todd Akin, are doing their best to blow their shot at taking control of the Senate. By eating their own, they are consuming themselves. And they seem too brainless to know it.

If he loses this race, it will be the fault of party poobahs, not Todd Akin. One of the party leaders actually suggested last night that the GOP try to run a third-party challenge to their own candidate. That would be a certifiably guaranteed way to forfeit victory to the opposition.

Akin’s words, for which he apologized even though he had no need to, were right. He was entirely correct to say that pregnancies in cases of forcible rape are rare.

He did not, by the way, say that pregnancy was impossible in rape, just rare.

How about the New York Times, the Bible of [left-wingers]? “Lowering Stress Improves Fertility Treatment.”

Said Dr. Domar, “If you’re really stressed out and depressed, the body seems to sense that’s not a good time to get pregnant.” Hmm. Sound suspiciously like the body shutting down, no?

Todd Akin uses one word that was grossly misinterpreted by his enemies, and the members of his own party throw his carcass to the jackals.

Now that Akin has decided to stay in...as he should, ignoring the hysterical bellows and the pitchforks, the ruling class Republicans will have to eat some crow and reverse themselves by resuming support for Akin’s candidacy. Certainly they cannot be so stupid as to commit hari-kiri by withholding help because they’re in some kind of snit. Can they?

The lesson from all of this: if you’re a Republican, and you want a friend in the party, you’d better buy a dog.

Sorry, you are dead wrong. I have family and friends in Missouri, all over the state. They are Evangelical Christians and some Catholics who want him in. He is very popular and known well in the pro-life community. Many of the tea party leaders came out for him. Of course, the news is only reporting those who want him to drop out. The gop is hyping this up to get a Christian and Conservative out. These people are really mad at what the gop is doing. They keep it up and romney will lose ALL of them.

Have you paid attention to the dates of those studies. Gee whiz, talking about reaching for the bottom of the barrel. You can keep citing Willke, just like the 9/11 "truthers" keep citing reports by some inane engineer that it is "proof" that the government blew up the WTC.

The facts are actually very clear, there's no magic mumbo jumbo involved. If a woman is ovulating, if she gets raped and the rapist ejaculates inside her and his sperm reaches the egg, she gets pregnant, period.

"In a Tuesday interview with The Christian Post, Dr. Gene Rudd, an obstetrician-gynecologist who is also senior vice president of Christian Medical & Dental Associations, said there is no evidence that pregnancies are rare among rape victims. "I don't know where [Akins is] coming from, but what he said, there's no basis for it," Rudd explained.

Free Republic has been invaded by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, protecting their man. Romney is such a control freak; he is afraid Akins will cost him the presidency. He did not care when we lost in 2008 because he sent his people out to destroy Sarah. He knew if McCain won he could not run in 2012, so he sabotaged her. He's a selfish *$#.

You've told me no such thing.

What next, fool?

Great, the Tea Party came out for Sharron Angle too, none of that is worth a damn if you turn off independents and moderates because they think you're a raging lunatic.

Its not possible to win elections without getting a good percentage of the moderates and independents, the same one's he's turned off with his crazy-as-hell rhetoric.

All the Akin cultists seem to forget that.

Compare that to a guy like Paul Ryan who has had to win in a Democrat heavy district regularly and has done so by speaking calmly, coherently, competently and its clear that Akin is a lightweight who doesn't belong in the spotlight.

You can always put a little salve on the wound, or if it is fatal you can have a dignified funeral. The reaction of the Republicans has encouraged the media to keep this one alive. By condemning and dumping Akin did the Republicans really believe the leftist media and the socialist party would let the thing go? No way! Even if Akin had dropped out the media would have still referred to him as an example of what Republicans really think about rape and women. His remaining in the race is really not going to change that.

What do you base this assertion upon? Or is this just your opinion?

I still would like to hear him explain “legitimate rape”. What rape is legit?

He did explain it dude. He said he meant "forcible." Same mistake Whoopi Goldberg made with "rape rape." They were trying to distinguish it from statutory rape. In the context of his remarks, this should be clear, because he was speaking of the physical results of a traumatic rape.

By the fact that rest of the world, other than a small minority of poster's here at FR and Claire McCaskill are calling him a raving lunatic. His comments were so far off-base, so in opposition to medical science that he might as well have argued that the world is flat.

Actually it would, they'd try to run on the story and eventually run out of steam, but him going on the full-liberal tour, talking to Matt Lauer, George Stephanopoulos and almost Piers Morgan shows me the guy doesn't have the proper judgment or common sense that is required for the office he's seeking.

I'm counting down the days until he stands down and John Brunner or Sarah Steelman are giving the chance to rescue this seat from his incompetence.

That's not empirical evidence to support your assertion.

Thanks for sharing your opinion...again!

Yeah, his “gaffe”. Let's see, his “gaffe” turned a slam dunk 11% LEAD into a 65% LOSS in less than 72 Hours.

As I said a few days ago, thank goodness this didn't happen the last week of October. Now we have to fight for every Vote while convincing the Electorate that this Idiot misspoke about RAPE.

He didn't just compromise the Senate Seat from MO, he compromised control of the Senate because he is the Republican version of Joe Biden, without the positive Press.

I will assume you know who runs the Media, and it ain't Jim Robinson.

I really dislike Romney, and I am convinced that he was the culprit behind the leaking of Herman Cain's supposed affairs. I had finally convinced myself to vote for him, but this incident just aggravates me to no end. Republicans always seen to cower and run. Too many times they have had opportunities to change the socialist drift of the country and they have not taken a single step. I can't, and I will never trust the Republican party to stand up for limited government and the Constitution. Although Akin’s words were really stupid, the way he was abandonned overnignt by most of the GOP just reminds me of all the other times the party chose not to fight.

Part of the job is presenting positions in a clear coherent manner, Akin has failed hat simple test. He is an inarticulate clod.

All he had to say is that the baby isn’t guilty of anything the rapist father and then shut up.

Then when he messed up he kept digging the hole.

If he were a rat it wouldn’t matter because he would have the press to cover for him, but since he is a pub and can be linked to the Tea Party the dumb sob is being used as a brush to lie and smear all of us.

he should have stepped down, he put his interest ahead of the interest of pro life conservatives.

Akins is a maladroit who does no good to the country, the Republican Party, the Conservative movement or the pro-life cause by staying in the race. We need to run and elect conservative statesmen, and the stateman-like action would have been to drop out of the race.

Even were it established by rigorous scientific study that the probability of conception in instances of forcible rape was far less than the probability in consensual sexual intercourse due to some hormonal effect of trauma, that fact would not be interesting in the consideration of abortion policy. Akins’ did a disservice to the pro-life cause by bringing up the hypothesis as if it were fact, and worse by making the assertion absolute rather than probabilistic.

The only questions of import to abortion policy are which abortions are justifiable homicides, and which are murder. (I remind you all of the case of ectopic pregnancies, in which if the child continues to grow, the mother will at best suffer grievous bodily harm, at worst die, and the child will die. Ending such a pregnancy ends the life of a unique, distinct human being, but is in the nature of self-defense. Those pro-lifers in favor of a rape exception argue that forcing a woman to carry the rapist’s child to term is a continuation of the assault, and, thus, in this instance, too, an abortion is in the nature of self-defense.)

That said, the brouhaha over Akins’ use of the word “legitimate” as a modifier on “rape” is sheer propaganda. It is not Akins who has muddied the definition of rape. Rather the use of the word “rape” modified with the adjective “statutory” to denote consensual sexual intercourse when a legislature has created the legal fiction that persons who have not passed some arbitrarily chosen age (generally in the range between 14 and 18) cannot consent to sex, and one of the parties had not reached that state’s chosen age, and the bizarre stretches to its meaning advocated by feminists — the most extreme example being Andrea Dworkin, whose writings read as if she regards all heterosexual intercourse as rape, though she and her apologists have been at pains to deny this, but who most assuredly asserted that “In seduction, the rapist often bothers to buy a bottle of wine,” thereby effacing any distinction between gently wooing into consenting to fornication and the violent violation of a person (usually female) traditionally called rape (cf. also the notion of “rape” under which Sweden wants to prosecute Julian Assange).

Most would like to gloss Akins’ “legitimate” as a fumble of “forcible”, especially given his hypothesizing a lower pregnancy rate which would have no basis whatsoever even in theory, in the case of the nubile 16 year old in an age-of-consent-18 state willingly surrendering her chastity, But perhaps he was trying to draw a distinction not between forcible rape and statutory rape, but between rape and false accusations of rape (cf. Tawana Brawley and Crystal Magnum). Whatever he meant, he made a muddle of it, perhaps because he wasn’t thinking clearly about what distinction he wanted to make. I remind those who want to lionize him as a stalwart pro-lifer that the pro-life cause does not need muddled spokesmen, but champions who can speak with clarity about moral issues to hostile interviewers and audiences. Akins is no such champion.
