The slavering, slobbering hyenas in the Republican party, by tearing at the flesh of their own senatorial candidate Todd Akin, are doing their best to blow their shot at taking control of the Senate. By eating their own, they are consuming themselves. And they seem too brainless to know it.
If he loses this race, it will be the fault of party poobahs, not Todd Akin. One of the party leaders actually suggested last night that the GOP try to run a third-party challenge to their own candidate. That would be a certifiably guaranteed way to forfeit victory to the opposition.
Akins words, for which he apologized even though he had no need to, were right. He was entirely correct to say that pregnancies in cases of forcible rape are rare.
He did not, by the way, say that pregnancy was impossible in rape, just rare.
How about the New York Times, the Bible of [left-wingers]? Lowering Stress Improves Fertility Treatment.
Said Dr. Domar, If youre really stressed out and depressed, the body seems to sense thats not a good time to get pregnant. Hmm. Sound suspiciously like the body shutting down, no?
Todd Akin uses one word that was grossly misinterpreted by his enemies, and the members of his own party throw his carcass to the jackals.
Now that Akin has decided to stay in...as he should, ignoring the hysterical bellows and the pitchforks, the ruling class Republicans will have to eat some crow and reverse themselves by resuming support for Akins candidacy. Certainly they cannot be so stupid as to commit hari-kiri by withholding help because theyre in some kind of snit. Can they?
The lesson from all of this: if youre a Republican, and you want a friend in the party, youd better buy a dog.

Nonsense. Huge numbers of rape victims in war ended up dead.
The purpose was not impregnation, though some of that may have occurred.
The purpose was one of dominance, of showing the opposing troops could not defend their women, of control--physical and political, of demonstrating violently that their opponents had been defeated.
Forcible rape is seldom about 'sex' in any normal sense, it is about domination.
The finding of hypocortisolism is consistent with endocrine dysfunctioning in chronic sexual abuse victims and may have clinical implications with regard to treatment possibilities.
See, the chronic sexual abuse victims had a lower cortisol output (hypocortisolism) as they, sadly, were obviously more acclimatized mentally to such abuse and it wasn't as stressful for them any longer, compared to the "adolescent victims of single sexual trauma" which was still generating stress for them and caused them to produce higher cortisol levels.
Thanks for the link, though you probably didn't intend for it to help me as much as it did.
On the contrary, I believe the conclusions are accurate. You do know what hypocortisolism means, right? Hypo means suppressed, as opposed to hyper, which would mean elevated. The study's conclusion clearly states that rape-induced PTSD tends to cause HPA-axis dysregulation, resulting in depressed cortisol levels. This was the whole purpose of the study - to investigate why rape PTSD causes detached depression instead of the increased anxiety common in PTSD caused by other types of traumatic events.
Once again we see that chronic or "long term" stress/anxiety reduces cortisol production instead of increasing it. People become mentally acclimatized to whatever their situation is and the body reacts accordingly.

You 'forgot' to include the first sentence of the conclusion, which stated that the study supports the hypothesis that victims of a single sexual trauma experience the same dysregulation as chronic victims. Here is the conclusion in its entirety:
ConclusionsThe results show evidence for a dysregulated HPA-axis in female adolescent victims of single sexual trauma with PTSD. The finding of hypocortisolism is consistent with endocrine dysfunctioning in chronic sexual abuse victims and may have clinical implications with regard to treatment possibilities.
Are you having difficulty comprehending what you are reading, or are you deliberately cherry picking to make the source appear to say the opposite of what it actually does?
You asked me to produce a study contradicting your claim that rape causes elevated cortisol levels. I did.
Now its my turn. I challenge you to produce evidence that rape causes elevated cortisol levels.
The study's conclusion clearly states that rape-induced PTSD tends to cause HPA-axis dysregulation, resulting in depressed cortisol levels.
This is what the study says in the "Background: section...
In chronic sexual abuse victims with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis can be dysregulated. In single rape victims, PTSD symptoms are hypothesized to function as a chronic stressor leading to similar HPA-axis dysregulation.
They concluded what they hypothesized.
Are you having difficulty comprehending what you are reading, or are you deliberately cherry picking to make the source appear to say the opposite of what it actually does?
Nope! I'm not having difficulty nor am I cherry picking.
Feel free to reference my post #187, where I point out that you completely ignored the sentence linking single rape events with the same lowered cortisol.
Then I assume we are in agreement that the study shows that single rape events display the same lowered cortisol levels as chronic abuse. Good. Let's move on to your proof that rape increases cortisol.
I’ve got to call it a night. I’ll check back tomorrow for any responses.
This was fun. Thanks for the research project. Have a good night.
Sorry, I don't see where your link does that.
I challenge you to produce evidence that rape causes elevated cortisol levels.
I doubt that such "evidence" exists.
I just can't envision somebody at the scene of the crime in a lab coat with a mouth swab or urine sample cup in hand asking the woman to help them out with their research while she's being raped.
I contend that stress, not rape, causes increased cortisol production.
You ain't that sly.
And prior to this, the Rats NEVER, EVER smeared the GOP.
As I said...I contend that stress, not rape, causes increased cortisol production.
Cortisol and Stress: How to Stay Healthy By Elizabeth Scott, M.S.
Although stress isnt the only reason that cortisol is secreted into the bloodstream, it has been termed the stress hormone because its also secreted in higher levels during the bodys fight or flight response to stress, and is responsible for several stress-related changes in the body.
Elevated cortisol from stress after the rape can be how a woman prevents herself from becoming pregnant.
How hard is this to grasp?!
Liberals, Democrats, and mostly Republicans are pissed off (excuse me) because Akin is totally for life while Romney and Ryan are not.
Akin pleases God and shows strength with his choice to stay in plus he shows human respect for what it is worth..nothing.
That's why you keep seeing the word "chronic" used in the studies!
The "chronic" doesn't react as they should because they've disrupted the way their body is supposed to work, even with their own cortisol production.
No wonder liberals want us all worried all of the time.
If we're "stressed out" all of the time we won't fight back as we naturally would.
