All they did in their society was to eradicate one manner of differentiating oneself (earning money and accumulating wealth), and replace it with another (accumulating position and power). This what happens in absolutely every instance in which the stupidity that is communism/socialism is tried.

Apparently there was some regulation that specified the ensign in the red shirt always had to take the risk. They may not even have had to make a decision....

I was just talking about the economy. The incredibly heirarchal society was another story, and don’t even get me started on the plight of the Red Shirts.
Those guys not only knew how to make ALL the technology work, they were also the most expendable. Now, in a society where the technology enables everyone to realize their wildest dreams, shouldn’t those tech guys be almost revered?
But, instead they are chosen to die horrible deaths. Its like the effete blue shirts and overbearing gold shirts were jealous and wanted the red shirts to die young. There is something going on behind the scenes with this that they don’t want us to know! :)
