Year ago, my husband told me that he was comfortable with the fact that he couldn’t force another person to be a good person. So he focuses his attention on himself. “All I can do is set an example.”
I’ve learned that this was a wise move and I try to do the same thing.

I don’t know where to start, so I guess I’ll start with your assumption about men. Where the Hell did you come up with the idea that men haven’t changed much? From what I’ve seen, the difference between men in my parents generation (born early 1920’s) and my son’s generation (born early 1990’s) is night and day. Not all of it bad mind you. My parents generation was downright silly when it came to sex and marriage, never even mentioning that married people did it.
I’m going to presume that your dog thing was a crude metaphor for gay marriage, and you’re trying to say that in your experience, the women you have observed have been supportive of gay marriage? If that’s the case, the women aren’t all wrong. Even if gay marriage was to be actually criminalized, I doubt any young woman in her right mind would want to marry a man who even harbored the thought of marrying a man.
Which is why I personally prefer homosexuality in the closet, but not totally repressed. In societies where homosexuality is strictly forbidden, even in private, you always have poor saps unhappily married to lesbians who’re pretending to be straight to save their skin, or unhappily married women who’re married to men who’re only pretending to like women to save theirs.
Plenty of blame to go around for both sexes IMHO.
Men don’t act like men anymore, being fearful of both responsibility and accountability.
Women are just as bad, expecting perfection from their men, but constantly redefining what that perfection means.
Oh, sure there are plenty of examples of men and woman who behave correctly even though all of popular culture encourages them to behave differently.
I do know one thing, if our men (a growing number of men from the West) don’t start acting like men again, they will eventually be subjugated by men from other (primarily Asia) cultures who do.
As for our women, they had better start supporting our men again instead of constantly undermining them, be it from infantilizing them or by becoming a shrew. If our women don’t recognize this soon, they might not like the version of man who replaces the current western model.
