Do you want to see where this country is headed? If so, don't focus on the few areas that are still very prosperous. New York City has Wall Street, Washington D.C. has the federal government and Silicon Valley has Google and Facebook. Those are the exceptions. The reality is that most of the country has been experiencing a slow decline for a very long time and once thriving cities such as Gary, Indiana and Flint, Michigan have become absolute hellholes. They are examples of what the rest of America will look like soon. 60 years ago, most Americans were decent, hard working people and there were always good jobs available for anyone that was willing to roll up his or her sleeves and put in an honest day of work. But now all of that has changed. Over the past decade, tens of thousands of manufacturing facilities have shut down and millions of jobs have left the country. Cities such as Cleveland, Baltimore and Detroit were once shining examples of everything that was right about America, but now they stand out like festering sores.

I know most of the area well.
It has been falling apart since I became a young man.
I have spent the last 35 years trying to keep it alive.
Simple solution: request Baghdad send a peace keeping force to Chicago.
Cedar Point still rocks, and I am not shamed by visiting Geneva On The Lake
Though I skedaddled when I came of age I return on a regular basis and I too know the areas very well. If I may be bold to suggest your energies might be better directed towards the preservation of Kelleys Island, if they aren't already. |
That it does. |
Best damn Roller coaster park EVER!
I really like Presque Isle even if its technically in Pa.
South Bass Island is pretty cool too.
|
But Cedar Point Is still completely competitive.
That reminds me of the board walk at Geneva on the Lake.
Any questions?
I've been going to KI since I was a kid. Bought a cottage there even when I lived 2,000 miles away. I literally know every inch and most every resident. I've been both arrested and honored by the village. I've been there so often that a few years ago I decided enough.. how many times can I do something? No doubt I miss it often but now I go to HI instead so I guess I'll live. Here is a cool pic of my buddies and me driving from Marblehead to KI over the ice one winter. We were out of the car (about half way across) looking for a passage over a large crack in the ice. I'm the photographer so I'm not in the pic. If you look over the right shoulder of the guy in the foreground you can see the Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial on South Bass Island.
At least we enjoyed the parts of OH before "hell hole" became an apt (to one degree or another) descriptor. |
As California and Illinois break down fiscally, I expect more of their urban areas will reflect the lack of funding.
Well despite it’s demise, I am like you.
I am very proud of my home.
I won’t let it go quietly into the night.
Makes me Mad evrytime Obama acts like he gets it
BTW Marblehead is one of the best lighthouses in the country
I long ago gave up worrying about what happens inside the concentrated Democrat parasite nests ("cities"). My main concern nowadays is making sure my representatives understand that I will do everything in my power to get them defeated if they dump my tax dollars into those filthy, worthless, rat holes.
The guy in the foreground in the frozen lake pic was my best friend from -kindergarten- and as he has become an Obama lib he is dead to me now. My siblings, who are still in Cuyahoga County, are sucking the govt. teat. I barely interact with them and they are out of the will. It's sad, it makes me cry. |
That's a rare and proud thing to know, we are the true elite :) |
I left in 1979.
The writing was on the wall for me as a young firebrand.
But I fight to preserve it all as an old fart.
