No, but he keeps rust from spreading.
Interesting. Thanks for posting. I always enjoy Dalrymple’s articles.
Think about it...how many fish do you know with Alzheimer’s?
I don’t know about Alzheimer’s, but I do know that since I began taking my fish oil supplements (along with a daily multivitamin), my ability to concentrate for longer periods of time has improved significantly.
That might be a placebo affect, but even if it is, I don’t really care. I feel better, I work better, and sleep better. That’s good enough for me.
I’ve taken 3 grams of fish oil daily for many years. I just can’t remember why though...
BTW, get enteric coated fish oil caps. That way you don’t burp it up. It has an... interesting flavor.
Krill oil baby!
I eat the greasiest, oiliest fishies I can find. I even throw a little vaseline on ‘em if they’re not slippery enough.
Be careful with “Fish Oils.” There are some studies indicating that in large amounts it can reduce the bodies platelet formation. (Over 1600 Mg is a large amount.)
Answer: “No” in double blind studies.
I take fish oil because it *might* help, just as it *might* help someone whose family has a history of heart disease. The kind of family, like some of my relatives, in which the males keel over dead before age 50.
Both of my grandmothers had dementia, as did my dad, and knowing how bad my short-term memory is already, I continue to take the fish oil, D, and niacin. Not because I *know* it will help, but because it *might* help.
Coconut oil - look it up!
This is suppose to be wonderful for the brain...
My doctor just told me that a recent study found that it did help reduce chances of the disease.
I bought some but forgot to take them.
Much better than fish oil alone....http://www.swansonvitamins.com/SWE036/ItemDetail
The active ingredient in fish oils is also found in organ meats of land animals. It is called Phosphotidyserene and is available in health food stores as a capsule.
By the way, Coho Salmon is a vegetarian and does not contain high levels of mercury. It also tastes better if you can find it.
From the Mayo Clinic:
There is evidence from multiple studies supporting intake of recommended amounts of DHA and EPA in the form of dietary fish or fish oil supplements lowers triglycerides, reduces the risk of death, heart attack, dangerous abnormal heart rhythms, and strokes in people with known cardiovascular disease, slows the buildup of atherosclerotic plaques (”hardening of the arteries”), and lowers blood pressure slightly.

Not Alzheimers, but heart health.

New research about lyme disease bacteria causing Alzheimer. The problem is so many doctors know nothing about Lyme. There is only one reliable test called the Western Blot, and it has to be sent to a good lab like Igenex in California.
I don’t know about Alzheimer’s but I was surprised that my opthamologist (and cataract surgeon) advised me to take fish oil for dry eye, which I have suffered from for years after wearing soft contact lenses for maybe too many of those years. Anyway, fish oil seems to help and also astanxian(sp) which is what turns salmon orange is supposed to be the best eye medicine available from the supplement store. There is a small amount in fish oil but a supplement can be added to the fish oil of about 8mg. This is supposed to be good for all eye ailments. Can’t hurt I’d guess.
No, but it makes your breath smell like you are a French romeo.
