Being a member of applebees... huh, is that how they get around dryness, by being a club?

Yeah, I'm in a dry county in Texas and you have to join a “private club” to order alcohol in an establishment. Some people would have 10-12 cards in their wallet to prove their “membership”. Recently, the county next to us went wet and it's odd to see the people drinking after so many years of trying to convince the Deacon's of the church that “It wern’t them!”

I live in the wettest dry county in Arkansas! Our local city fathers about had apoplexy when two private clubs went in on the West side of the county.

In the late 60s, I worked at Dawn Hill Country Club about 25 miles west of Bentonville.
As 'guests' checked in, we would ask if they intended to drink during their visit. If they said 'yes', we sold them a Country Club membership for $5.00.
When they checked out, we refunded their $5.00.

Yep. There is, however, a measure on the ballot in November to make Benton county a wet county. Hopefully, it passes and puts an end to all the nonsense.
