Why is FR the slowest I visit? I have almost quit coming here, not that anyone cares, due to slow loading of a TEXT forum .
Its because FReepers (as you can probably tell from the many posts to this thread) are deep thinkers, and deep thoughts take longer to transmit.
But realistically, a lot of this could happen at any shared hosting environment, so there isn't much new here. The biggest innovation in cloud computing was the higher-level abstraction layer that allows users to programmatically provision services (add servers remotely, route traffic based on network conditions, etc), due to the incorporation of virtual machines. Remote hosting has been around since the internet was founded by Al Gore years ago, and as JimRob referenced in post 88, is employed by FR.
But you're right, only you will have the utmost respect for your data. If I was consulting users and data confidentiality was tantamount; well, you're only really going to be able to do that yourself. However, with FR data, posts are already public, passwords should be hashed, the only super-sensitive data I could think of would be email addresses or IP addresses.
Besides, they even have a separate provisioned datacenter for government networks.
The cloud isn't for everyone, but a lot of people discount it for reasons that aren't entirely accurate.
MOBY-DICK is a great novel. Not so great would be such a poster.
:-D
I would gladly delete everything in my freepmail file if there were a button that said "delete all". Freepmail isn't for public use anyway, so an easy way to get rid of it would be welcome.
Perhaps others have deleted all along through the years, but I woke up a year or so ago and realized I had about 10 years of it on file. I just don't feel like going page by page to get rid of it.
It's possible I'm missing a "delete all" tool I wasn't aware of.
That said, I consider FR software the best discussion software anyplace. Nothing even comes close.
On a slow day - on it's very worst day -- FR software makes the competition look childishly amateurish.
For many months now, FR has taken forever to load, regardless of what computer I use.
Wow, came back to see this post after several days,,’ damn, hit a sore spot I see
Interesting how many FR folks seem to think the problem is on “our” end.
I bet I visit 20 different forums on a regular basis, FR is always the slowest and by a significant amount.
That’s just fine, there are reasons for it, but nobody should deny that it’s a fact.
You are not using the windows Alt-F4 browser enhancement tool.
Lots of 'sore spots' throughout this forum lately, but that's another discussion...
I agree with you, though... FR loads much slower for me than most other websites do. I know the problem isn't on my end - I have a new, pretty fast computer.
