This is just the latest tax increase proposal by the O'Malley administration on top of serveral other punishing taxes recently levied on Marylanders. O'Malley is frequently mentioned as a 2016 Democrat presidential candidate.

With spring around the corner....I imagine that a lot of Maryland folks with boats...will find other states to register their boats and simply keep them parked in those states. By the end of 2013...the chief guy who counts boat taxes...will announce that over half the boats in Maryland left the state. Everyone will ask why, and be shocked at the logic. How to encourage them to come back? Well....you need to hire up a special company and pay them $500k to figure out how to bring boats back into the state.

Sounds like Marxists attacking the people’s leisurely activities. You can’t even bite into a donut now and not feel guilty about it.

In addition to internet sales taxes, new 6% sales taxes on some items now now taxed, increased gas taxes, elimination of a tax deduction on the amount of income tax paid for people with more than $100k incomes, .....

Well, John Kerry certainly won't be hiding his boat in Maryland.

"What's the benefit?

Pleasantly lucrative pension plans for those keyboard operators who input the information for our own protection and lucrative finances for politicians running for higher office.

What more noble causes could be asked for?

Some Sumbifch has gone crazy.

Ihave two boats, one is an antique that I used 3 times last year, the other a skiff I crab out of.

I can sell them both or just not register them, the hell with it. I won’t paythat much money to boat in a river with no oysters left in it, a few crabs that I can get in pots off the wharf and declining fish populations. Not to mention the fact that the water is so dangerous that last year we were warned not to swim in it because it’s an open sewer.

Fluke O’Malley.

O’Malley raided the transportation fund and others and is now desperately trying anything that will stick to make up for the Democrats blunder and cover their thievery.
He’s also suggesting removing all or part of the mortgage interest deduction for MD income taxes. Increase the car tag registration fees, increase the tolls for bridges and tunnels and others. Anyone want to add to the list?

Sure! Because the political class is going to do so much more for boat owners.

I am not a boat owner. I've never been a boat owner; and I have no plans to be a boat owner. Nonetheless I am outraged.

Fees are being hiked for every level of government. It won’t stop, until a large proportion of government employees are laid off after the bond collapse. They won’t have so much money and time for politics then.

I towed my 16ft beach catamaran behind the barn and left it there for the same reason..........maintaining the registration and other BS was just not worth it anymore.

Texas Parks and Wildlife was worried I'd leave potholes in their precious water..........

This sucks. I was planning on buying a 40-50 foot sailing yacht as my home and living on it.

And I’d be working in Maryland... so I guess the only choice I have would be to try and dock it in Virginia or Delaware and then commute. (which would also bite)

On the other hand, with a boat, I won’t have to pay property taxes.

This will lead to the “Derelict Marina” bill to subsidize empty marinas throughout Maryland. The leading Democrats will all stand around and wonder why this happened.

When I lived in Maryland, it cost me $85 every two years to register my truck. I wonder what the fee is now? And I had to get an emissions test on it, too. Waste of time.
