Despite the premise of "Game Change" - that Sarah Palin cost John McCain the 2008 presidential election - Gallup polls prove HBO's assertion categorically false. Palin wasnt the reason the Republicans lost the election. Shes the only reason they had a fighting chance up until the time McCain suspended his presidential campaign in late September.
Gallup polls from the last presidential race prove that once Palin joined the ticket on Aug. 29, 2008, McCains ratings steadily climbed to a point where the Republican ticket even outshined Democratic Sen. Barack Obama.
In the two weeks before Palin joined the McCain ticket, the Arizona senator drifted in the low 40 percentile range, mostly around 41, 42 and 43 percent, while Obama held as much as an 8 point lead at about 49 and 50 percent. Four days after Palin joined the ticket, however, McCains numbers climbed to 45 percent and Obamas sank to 47 percent, narrowing the gap significantly from eight points to two.
Between Sept. 4-6, McCain and Palin actually overshot the Obama ticket by 3 percent with the Republicans in the lead at 48 percent and the Democrats at only 45. McCain consistently held that lead until Sept. 15, and then the candidates balanced out with Obama enjoying a mere three-point lead, and no lead at all from Sept. 22-24, when the numbers were tied at 46 percent.

What movie is that?
In 2008, I voted for Sarah Palin. John Mccain just happened to be on the ballot as well!
In an ideal world, if Sarah Palin was to announce in the next five minutes she was throwing her hat in, within TEN minutes she would be leading the polls and there would be no looking back.
PALIN/WEST. UNBEATABLE.
That was a dole dive.
Mitty is another rigged fight.
The facts are the R party has been compromised by the commie manifesto agenda.
Long time Clintonista Trump has climbed in bed with Mitt. Possibly his best choice for Veep. A Clinton agent. When one side controls both parties, we only have one party. The Ruling Party.
Time for TEA!
ron gromneysan notwithstanding.
That HBO “Game Change” nonsense movie.
Me too.
However, the movie’s premise could still be accurate if our two votes were outweighed by three people deciding to vote for Obama because they hated Sarah. And there is no doubt quite a few people did (and do).
Is HBO still a cable channel?
I can say the same.
Right after her astounding convention speech - the best I have EVER heard - I went to my local (Beaverton, Oregon) McCain campaign office to volunteer and was told they were suddenly overwhelmed with volunteers after Sarah’s speech and would try to fit me in. Unfortunately I never did hear from them.
What do your moderate friends think now that we’ve had 3+ years of the communist?
And what happened September 14th? Lehman Brothers collapses and sets off the financial crisis. Take a look at McCain's Intrade numbers and bump them up against the DJIA. Almost a perfect correlation.
I ONLY voted in the 2008 election because if Sarah Palin, otherwise I would have stayed home. She was the only thing exciting about that campaign. McCain was an utter bore, when he said to that woman at a campaign event “You don’t have to be afraid of an Obama Presidency” I wouldn’t have blamed Sarah had she told McCain to shove it! The way I see it, John McCain cost Sarah Palin the election..its HIS fault and the idiots he put around him that she is not in the White House right now
What is HBO?
I voted FOR Palin. McRino just happened to be on the same ticket.
I cursed McCain’s name as I voted for Sarah.
Haven’t spoken to them. They moved to Palm Springs about two years ago. They are a gay couple (opposed to gay marriage, though - they think the idea is stupid). One of them was a big Reagan supporter in the 80’s, and still speaks fondly of RR.
They were big Hillary supporters in 2008 and absolutely despised Obama. They knew he was a con-artist. They liked John McCain, and really admired Cindy McCain for her philanthropic work, and they were all set to vote for McCain until he picked Palin. I think they actually ended up sitting the election out.
The reason they moved to Palm Springs is because their store that they had for over 20 years went under. So I suspect that they are not enjoying the Obama years very much.
Me too
All one had to do was to witness one of her rallys. That alone would tell you how wrong they are about her costing McCain the election. However, in essence, she did do that, because people were voting for her and not McCain. She stole the election from Mc Cain.
