Whom Do You Believe? HBO or Gallup?
Big Hollywood ^ | 02-04-12 | Jeffrey Scott Shapiro

Despite the premise of "Game Change" - that Sarah Palin cost John McCain the 2008 presidential election - Gallup polls prove HBO's assertion categorically false. Palin wasn’t the reason the Republicans lost the election. She’s the only reason they had a fighting chance up until the time McCain suspended his presidential campaign in late September.

Gallup polls from the last presidential race prove that once Palin joined the ticket on Aug. 29, 2008, McCain’s ratings steadily climbed to a point where the Republican ticket even outshined Democratic Sen. Barack Obama.

In the two weeks before Palin joined the McCain ticket, the Arizona senator drifted in the low 40 percentile range, mostly around 41, 42 and 43 percent, while Obama held as much as an 8 point lead at about 49 and 50 percent. Four days after Palin joined the ticket, however, McCain’s numbers climbed to 45 percent and Obama’s sank to 47 percent, narrowing the gap significantly from eight points to two.

Between Sept. 4-6, McCain and Palin actually overshot the Obama ticket by 3 percent with the Republicans in the lead at 48 percent and the Democrats at only 45. McCain consistently held that lead until Sept. 15, and then the candidates balanced out with Obama enjoying a mere three-point lead, and no lead at all from Sept. 22-24, when the numbers were tied at 46 percent.

Thanks to all the revisionist history being spewed by the MSM, the truth about Palin in the '08 election is being lost. She is the only reason many of us ended up voting for the Progressive father of McCain Fiengold. The GOP had a serious shot at winning that election if it were not for the weak McLame and his incompetent bumbling during the economic crisis.

All polls given to us gratis are intended to further the agenda of the people paying for it.

Stop paying attention to these manipulative propaganda pieces.

Our local GOP HQ (Westmoreland County) had a surplus of lawn signs and a shortage of volunteers until Sarah Palin joined the ticket. Once she did, they had plenty of volunteers and a shortage of lawn signs. I gave one guy mine because his home was in a higher traffic location.

McCain didn't even bother to show up and he carried our county with 58%. Indeed, the same county which even Fritz Mondale still managed to win in Reagan's 1984 landslide election.

John McCain is the reason Sarah Palin lost the VP bid....
The only reason my wife and I voted for McCain was because of Palin. If she had not been on the ticket we would have exercised our franchise to sit out.

"Game Change" is a 100% Tom Hanks production.

I always knew he was a slimeball, but now I know just how slimey.

My parents were not going to vote, until Sarah was added. I have no difficulty believing that she gave McCain a fighting chance.

I think McCain at that point either panicked and nervously flubbed the campaign, or he panicked and deliberately threw the campaign.

I tend to believe he took a fall. Sarah almost was able to hold him off the mat.

I agree, McCain was an uninspiring candidate much like Romney.

Generates all the excitement of a mid-September baseball game between two teams 20 games out of first place.

He told us we were SOL in Michigan. Sarah Palin wanted to do more campaigning here.

Soon after Palin was picked as VP, McLame had a rally at Lehigh University that I attended. The crowd was 3 times what organizers thought it would be. The line to get in wrapped around the arena almost twice. A ton of attractive well dressed chicks all there to see Palin. McLame spoke for a few minutes to general applause, but when Palin started her speech, the place exploded. Obviously everyone was there to see her, much like I was.

Palin single handedly drug that loser McLame toward the finish line. If it wasn’t for her, he would have lost by 15-20%.

What I don’t understand is why she ENTHUSIASTICALLY endorsed McLame in 2010.

McCain cost McCain the election.

I wonder if McCain still thinks America has nothing to fear from an 0bama Presidency.

The gasp the audience let out after he said that was the death gasp of his Presidential aspirations.

McCain would have fared far worse without her on the ticket.

I also don’t think this movie will be one that people care to watch.

Mainly because who wants to be reminded of what a loser Juan is?

In answer to the headline, NEITHER.

I believe that Palin’s addition to the ticket was a net plus for McLame.

I have some moderate friends here in CA that were all set to vote for McCain (they didn’t like Obama), but they reconsidered when Palin was added to the ticket. Apparently, they bought the media narrative about her.

I suppose there were probably others like that, too.

But I am certain that there were far more people like me that recoiled at the thought of having to vote for McLame until he picked Palin. That is when I became genuinely excited.
