you and me both, only thing I’ve thought about is hunting for it heh. I don’t have the finances currently to prepare near as much as I would like. That’s changing, but not fast enough for how fast I see things spiraling out of control.

I would rather go offer my services (ex soldier), to a group of people that needs protection and assistance in any way I could help, rather than harm good folk and taking what is theirs. Society may go downhill, but God is still in control, and we will be held accountable.

be pretty hard to hunt down all the game, at least here in Canada, heck there’s 14 million geese alone, factor in reproduction and I think there will be some animals around for quite some time. The population would have a drastic thinning out in a hurry which would increase the animal odds.

You would probably fare better in rural Canada but here in the Florida Panhandle which is quite rural, the deer, turkey and alligator populations were nearly or totally wiped out during the great depression.

Deer have made an impressive comeback but turkey had to be reintroduced by the state. Now they are thriving again as are alligator. Also the Florida gopher tortoise (Hoover chickens) came close to being erased.

wow, they mopped up that much down there? That’s incredible.

Well, up here the cold is enough to keep most people out as well, you’re always welcome to come hang in the northern rockies heh. Never run out of water, and lots of food, just have to deal with weather and keeping the wanderers out.

With record gun sales and back ground checks, the lone wolf would certainly be in the wrong place or “kick in” the wrong door within a few hours of SHTF. Roving gangs would be a different story. Organized, armed and hungry.
My BIL says he’s gonna be a lone wolf, toting his wife and kid. Tried to tell him to do otherwise but you know...he’s a badazz. Glad he lives far away.

Water is the one thing we really have it nice here. There are 3 natural flowing springs within 20 miles of me which flow millions of gallons per day, maybe even more than that and the water is more pure than tap water.

There’s a few places that it might be an improvement.

The other day I was at the grocery store contemplating the extra food I had purchased as part of my preps, and I looked around at all the customers and thought how sad it was that these folks were going to suffer so horribly if and when SHTF.

After a few seconds, however, I realized that many of these customers already looked very much like savage, primitive cannibals, and that maybe I was the one on their SHTF menu!

Body armor? Most people in SHTF situations won’t have it unless they’ve taken it from police. And - only the highest levels can stop rifle projectiles - the class II police use can be made into swiss cheese by a Winnie ‘94 30-30.

“Street thugs”? You mean the ones stupid enought to hold their handguns sideways (not using the sights)? The ones with ZERO wilderness survival skills? The ones who depend on 7-11 burritos for sustinance? Those “street thugs”? They’ll rob and pillage the inner city cesspools and the residents of such who do not posess the drive, will and skills to hit the backcountry and survive. When that gravy train dries up, they’ll dry up - those “street thugs” that are stupid enough to venture out of their comfort zone into the hills, mountains and woods, will last about as long as a snowball in Hades. Foodstamps won’t help them there.

How seriously? My son is type 1.

“Black Powder and Alcohol” by Leslie Fish.”

Mythbusters did an episode where they tried to make black powder, didn’t work out so well. I tried when I was a kid too. Black powder is NOT easy to make.

In a SHTF situation, what’s to keep the ChiComms from invading the US and taking over?

Trident subs.

This is why you keep on hand what looks like your supply of food but is actually made with a ‘special secret recipe’. When they come for it, you cry ‘Please don't take our food!” They take it and after they leave you go ‘heee...heeee...heeee.....’

Well, it certainly seems to me that it is LEOs who are going to go to the Dark Side, long before the military that the author is so worried about. The military does have some orginization and controls that should last for a while as we slide toward SHTF. Law enforcement does not, and they will be using what hardware and training they have for their own purposes as soon as they figure it is in their best interests. This may not be perceived as much of a threat to the author, but it will be what people experience first, and it will hasten the slide.

"Good golly, its been decades since I read Lucifers hammer...didn’t the same guys write....the mote in Gods eye....good sci fi books..."

Yes and if Memory serves they also collaborated on a book that sticks the finger in the eye of the "GloBULL Warming" movement. Its called Fallen Angels and is a solid read and a good Scifi novel!
