Convince Me Otherwise
My fevered imagination. ^ | 02/06/2012 | Joan Varga

The GOP has made it very, very clear that they don’t actually need the Conservative vote. They merely trade on our dislike for the Democrat label and thus rightly discern that we will go along with the GOP label. And we go along with it because it’s easier to maintain our expectations of the GOP than to face its realities: it IS the Left. . . in drag.

So, why should I vote? The GOP has all the votes their ideology needs, regardless of who wins.

****

A heretical question: Is actively withholding one's vote in protest a sign of apathy, or can it be an apothecary for the patient in question?

Will the GOP get better if I keep feeding its fever for more power?

However I don’t want an informed decision I make to support Romney in the general to be characterized as “wrong” in a moral context.

I heard a renowned apologist speak today about this very thing. He spoke from a Christian perspective and it has caused me to think further if Romney gets it.

He said that the idea is to vote for such that will give us, as Christians, the most "moral" advantages in practicing our faith. Regardless if it's a faith we necessarily agree with or not. The idea is to get as close to maintaining our Christian Freedoms as possible and which candidate would most assure that.

We need a new Second Party. Prezactly.

How can you talk a new party when there isn't time for this election...further who would run with any hope of recovering this nation after Obama or Romney? As I see it this election is the do or die and last chance we have...thereafter it will not change one iotta as by the time they are finished "reshaping" this country there will be no truning it around left....it will not be recoverable.

You couch your lies well, but to say that Newt lacks self-discipline and govern as a conservative is beyond the pale. The most prominent factor in a man’s persona essential to writing is self-discipline. Has Newt written anything you can think of? Has Newt authored anything you can think of in government service? ... Deceivers like you are why the democrat sleaze machine is so successful. You’ve come ot bury Caesar, not to praise him, right?

I am not wasting any more time with a loony bird.

I will stick with my opinion because I am sane.

In your case, sanity has nothing to do with being a liar.

I care [too much]about my kids and grandkids to sit home in a snit.

You know, I've given this a lot of thought, probably more thought than it deserves. I do take a small umbrage at such a dismissal of my agonizing over the present state of things as nothing more than a "snit."

The full weight of my thoughts in this matter is the weight of history: my own and that of at least two generations prior. I have watched, chronicled and carefully studied the GOP terminal addiction to money. A cure seems dubious; I've seen methadone treatments that eased the gnawing desire but killed the body anyway. That is what the Conservative vote amounts to at this point. Voting for an experimental cure is easy, soothing, and short-sighted.

I've watched the GOP neglect to lift a finger to extend its existence beyond an expedient voting cycle. It has invested in everything but education of the next generation. It eats its own young, and picks its teeth with their malnourished bones, bones grown thin and taxed without representation.

Do I vote for a pause in the decline or do I focus on the progeny and do my best to prepare them for what's coming: your rich Uncle Sam is dying and leaving you nothing in his will. Get your house in order.

I see that we agree on everything but the timing. . . :o)

I live in WA. My vote does not matter ... Obama will get all 10 of our votes anyway. So, I can vote for Mickey Mouse with no consequences to the election. So I might, but I will NEVER vote for Romney.

I think you have it about right. When I mean snit, I mean that Obama must go, sooner rather than later. he is that dangerous.

We have good people out there who don’t want to run. That happens only because those people don’t want to drag the people they love through this process.

We are at the end. Another 4 years of Obama and there is no turning the dial back. At least not in our lifetime. Maybe never. I am kind of with those guys that know we may not be able to vote our way out of this mess.

That is how bad it is, and it is sad that we are in this dilemma now. We should have been grooming people for the task at hand.

No use talking to a person who is a tool that only throws around bomb throwing words. You win no one to your side and marginalize yourself.

You are forgettable.

See ya!

Let me clarify my position: I am extremely disappointed by the “choices” we have this time around, I am extremely disappointed and disgusted with the Republican party, I am heartsick about what the immediate future appears to hold for us, but I am not going to tell my grandkids that I didn’t even bother to go vote against the big 0, before he drove the car into the ditch and off the cliff.

The more we can slow the thing down, the more chance we have of not going over the cliff. Maybe even move back a bit.

but I am not going to tell my grandkids that I didn’t even bother to go vote against the big 0, before he drove the car into the ditch and off the cliff.

But that is exactly what they are counting on. The GOP is holding the Obama-gun to our heads and saying, "vote for our guy or the grandkids get it." It's the same mindset that the Dems have used against Conservatives for decades: vote for entitlements or the kids starve.

At some point you don't negotiate with the terrifying premise, right? At some point, Ronald Reagan fires the PATCO ATCs. At some point, we tell the kidnappers that we're not negotiating.

Now, for the simpler minds, here's what isn't being said OUT LOUD because it defeats the purpose of the passion: of course you'll negotiate, of course you're terrified, of course you want your country back and won't jeopardize it.

And the minute you say that out loud and they know you mean it? They'll keep right on doing whatever the Hell they want. And that's why it all appears so heartless and stupid for the likes of me to say what I mean to do, and to aver with all my heart that I will not negotiate with the false premise of the GOP elite.

The GOP put forth Romney at their own peril and at the peril of our nation. I didn't. I'll sleep just fine at night. My active vote won't change a thing. My passive vote just might send a message. THAT's my only hope at this point.

.
