Convince Me Otherwise
My fevered imagination. ^ | 02/06/2012 | Joan Varga

Posted on 02/06/2012 9:02:50 AM PST by JoanVarga

The GOP has made it very, very clear that they don’t actually need the Conservative vote. They merely trade on our dislike for the Democrat label and thus rightly discern that we will go along with the GOP label. And we go along with it because it’s easier to maintain our expectations of the GOP than to face its realities: it IS the Left. . . in drag.

So, why should I vote? The GOP has all the votes their ideology needs, regardless of who wins.

****

A heretical question: Is actively withholding one's vote in protest a sign of apathy, or can it be an apothecary for the patient in question?

Will the GOP get better if I keep feeding its fever for more power?

I'm with you. When they foisted John McCain on us, I vowed that it was the last time I would let the GOP force its RINOs on the base.

I've been hoping for a Ross Perot type insurgency with a conservative at the head. Something that would make the Republican Party into the Whig Party. Unfortunately, no one looks likely to step up. We could start a new party, but that would not be likely to gain traction quickly enough to affect this election cycle. One strong personality, with good funding, on the other hand, could overtake Romney in short order, and then force the RINOs to decide whether they want to join us or vote for Obama. Let them hold their noses for once.

March and April are kind of the deadlines for something like that to happen.

Ah, Romney, that paragon of virtue.

That stinging sensation in your back, Mr. Santorum? It's probably nothing.

There is a BIG difference between not voting and not voting for Romney.
2012 is not just a Presidential election for one thing.
For another, I will not vote for Romney and I could care less if people repeatedly say I am therefore voting of Obama.
I voted for McCain last time and guess what.. Obama won???

Otherwise, either I have a choice or I do not.
There is no evidence that Romney would be any different than Obama.
All we have is Romney saying the oposite of his own liberal record.
All we have is experts? Questionable polls? telling us Romney is the “most electable” but they can’t say why..? Just becuase? That’s a convincing argument?

Hi dforest, this is dtrees here.

They are chopping all of my kind down. Pretty soon, there won't be any of us left. Then we won't be able to see you, not for too many of us, but because we will all be gone, and so will you be.

“I care about my kids and grandkids to sit home in a snit.”

I care too much about my kids and grandkids to condemn them to socialism just because he has an R by his name.

Open your eyes!!

Get out and support Newt now for the primaries.

He is the last chance to stop us from going over the Socialist cliff.

The country is at a tipping point for debt, education, more takers than givers.

And Romney will NEVER have the luxury of cash from China that Obama will. And he will NEVER inspire a turnout from the Right. He will spend ALL his money and he will lose, just like McCain.

Conservatives don’t believe in Romney.
The GOP doesn’t believe in Conservatives.

It will provide temporary — *very* temporary — satisfaction. The day after the election, the frustration, disgust and anger will continue unabated.

If we *truly* want to fix the situation more to our liking, then we will simply have to increase the number of voters who will nominate, support and vote for more conservative candidates and reduce the number of voters who are (as I type this) ready, willing and able to support & vote for Romney/RINOs/RNC/GOP-e. We are flat outnumbered, fair and square. We can fix it, but it’s easier said than done.

If Obama is re-elected It is GAME OVER! Let us, first, ensure that doesn’t happen.

Who is the GOP?

Anything you can do with a third party you can do easier and quicker within the GOP.

Well, because:

1) this is exactly how 0bama got into office last time, and because

2) in spite of all of the hyperventilating, hyperbole, and righteous anger, even a moderate or RINO will be less harmful than the big 0.

It’s ugly, but there it is.

I disagree. At best we are looking at 4-years of liberal policies under Romney and at worst 8-years. Then there is post-Romney which, if history is any indication, will be a backlash against "conservative" principles (i.e. liberal incorrectly labeled) leading to a minimum of 4-more years liberal years ... and all the while Conservatives in Congress getting dragged down by their weak leader!!

I'll take my chances with 4 more years of Obama, and work for a Conservative congress to neutor his actions. I'll NEVER vote for the liberal from Mass.

We hear these same cries every election. We hear the cries from the right, and from the left.

The majority of Americans aren’t political junkies, and don’t spend a lot of time analyzing politics, finance etc. The vast majority of Americans are center-right or center left.

There will be no new party. The two major parties have made sure of that. We can make the best of the situation or become victims of it.

That is our choice.

I’ve prepared for years and I’m making the best of it. I think this is hardest on the younger folks, they have less experience and are more idealistic. Been there myself. I would trade my knowledge for their youth, but that can’t be done either.

It’s been a great ride, and I’m ready for the challenges ahead. As always, it’s what I do that makes 98% most difference. Reliance on elected officials is a liberal trait. Thinking that if we just elected the ‘right people’ problems would be ameliorated is a pipe dream.

I react to the power structure and use it to my advantage where possible. It’s a tough world. You are on your own, and you always will be on your own, other than family and perhaps a few friends. Any problems you have will only be solved by you.

Good luck, and as my Native American friends say, Many Blessings.

Voting just encourages the b@st@rds. That said, voting is still the only recourse most of us have to be heard in DC. Still not sure when we’ll have a primary here in Texas. The black robes here are doing their best to deny the voting rights of the citizenry.

>>...There is a conservative majority out there, longing for change...<<

I would hope so, but I have serious doubts about that. Romney generates *GOBS* of cash, and there are plenty of folks out there voting for him when they have Gingrich, Santorum and Paul to choose from — all arguably to the right of Romney. They can’t all be brain-dead, imbecilic voters. I don’t know what the deal is with all those voters, but the clear bottom line staring us in the face is (my opinion): Like it or not, we need to grow our numbers. We will remain frustrated, angry and disgusted until we do.

Exactly so. I've been sounding the tired alarm for years that while we worked two jobs and bought homes and allowed the State to raise and educate our kids while we "found" ourselves, the Left was patiently enabling more idle hands to stay home and rock the cradle. . . and thus rule the world.

You are a member of one of the competing factions for GOP power. If you just give up, you fulfill your own worst fears, and do nothing but give in to the leftists (and the RINO's), destroying further anything you believe in and want for your family and the US.

First, this is not over yet, so work for either Newt or Santorum to defeat Romney; donate, call, volunteer.
Second, work for the best slate of conservative candidates in congress, the senate, and down the ballot locally.
Third, if Romney wins, it's because we didn't (which would be a huge bummer), so suck it up and work harder for those other candidates in order to push Romney as far to the right as is humanly possible.

Last, if Romney wins, buy a fifth of something good, enjoy, and go vote for anyone but Obama. Obama really is horrid, and really must be stopped from four years of more tyranny and total leftist corruption.
