You are mostly right, but I think the 410 handguns may be better than pepper spray at those close distances. Certainly very painfull. As for snakes, I can buy snakeshot for any of my handguns.

why would you fire it once and set it somewhere?

I do not have one yet- I just think it looks cool

I love my pum 410 for home defense- i can see laying a bad guy to waste and not having too much damage to the drywall behind him
