Ron Paul is surging in Iowa according to the latest polls, but if the libertarian Texas Republican does become the flavor of the week, his foreign policy views will likely leave Republican voters with a sour taste.
The latest IBD/TIPP survey asked respondents which GOP presidential candidate they preferred on four issues: the economy, budget/taxes, health care and foreign policy. Paul is third behind Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, being the preferred choice by Republicans on the first three issues by margins of 9%, 10%, and 6%, respectively.
As todays IBD story touched on, Paul is weakest on foreign policy, where he is the choice of just 4%, tying him with Jon Huntsman.

“Oh you so much need the ZOT. LoL!” ... also .. it’s kind of sad when we can’t have a debate about a point without someone trying to just shut the other up.. If paul is so crazy, the more people that know the better, right?
“...we co-existed with Russia when they had 5000+ nukes, so why cant we co-exist with a nuclear Iran....”
Big difference: the Russians weren’t strapping bomb vests on kids nor flying airplanes into buildings.
They may be commiebastards, but they love their children too and didn’t want to see them barbecued for the cause of “world socialism” - and they knew damned right well we’d do if they f***ed with us.
The Muzzies, however, don’t give a crap; they’ll watch the whole world burn if it helps bring about Dar al Islam.
Different beast entirely.
RP has some good points. Others, not so much. Foreign policy ain’t one of them.
Because of his constitutionalism. So far the Republican Party establishment seems to believe they can safely pretend that's not really an issue, and keep giving us champions of New Deal style Big Government to choose from.
Maybe one day they'll choke to death on them.
Easy...THE KORAN
However, to Ron Paul, America is to blame for the Islamic Caliphate, not the Koran
Well we agree about that at least, the war should have cost exactly one nuke dropped on Falujiah years ago, plus the cost of fuel and combat pay for a couple of pilots.
What would the correct description be for a person that would say:
“Just think of what happened after 9/11. Immediately before there was any assessment there was glee in the administration because now we can invade Iraq,” Ron Paul Dec 8, 2011
A. Nutcase
B. Classless jerk
C. Ignorant
D. All of the above
You should be sorry.
The US is not the world’s police, otherwise how could Iran be such a growing threat?
The US takes action when forced to do so for security.
Your blaming the US for the hostility Iran shows to the region and growing threat to the civilized Western world is nothing short of sick in the head.
“Paul is third behind Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, being the preferred choice by Republicans on the first three issues by margins of 9%, 10%, and 6%...”
The headline and story don’t quite matchup. Disappointing, as I generally trust IBD compared to other media.
Ironic in that, with Pauls’ ‘Constitutionalism’ and his ‘foreign policy’- and Military ‘policy’ - we won’t need one.
here we go again, eating our own.
This is what gave us Dole and McCain.
Trust me, you WILL get Zotted.
Maybe not today and maybe not tomorrow.
But when you say the “US is to blame for Iran” then you will (and should) get Zotted sometime.
What Ron Paul are you talking about? I have heard him say on many occasions we were responsible for 9/11. Paul is delusional when it comes to terrorism and how to fight it.
I wouldn’t call 9-10% surging. Looks like Newt has it about sewn up.
Let me clarify my point. I don’t think Iran is any more or less hostile to us because of our military action in the mideast, they are simply more powerful due to the vacuum created by taking out Saddam.
And if you seriously don’t think we try to be world police? That is a given - we have bases all over the world and are intervening in conflicts all over.
Can you show me any other candidate that would come any closer to agreeing with Clarence Thomas on constitutional issues?
For a group of people who claim to hate big government, you guys sure are quick to accept "the 911 Commission Report" by the likes of Giant Government lovers like Jamie Gorelic.
Ron Paul and his supporters...I salute you!
RP is a joke of a candidate and he’ll be an footnote after Iowa.

I have great news!!!!!!!!!!
There aren’t all that many Paulnuts on FR, so you folks will be able to carpool yourselves back to your mental institutions.
See.... I told you that it was great news. LOL @ you folks.
For decades, hundreds of thousands of people were reading trash under the Ron Paul name, by people selected by Ron Paul, and gathering campaign funds for Ron Paul. Ron Paul cultists either your cult leader is the nutcase of those letters or one of the most incompetent people in history to be oblivious of them year after year after year....
Ok, instead of a discussion of opinions, just threaten me with removal from the website.
I am in a late primary state, so it is just an intellectual discussion as I will vote for whoever the R nominee is, thanks for being a jerk. have a good day.
