"On the bet, look, if he said $1 million, it would have been understood as not an actual offer but something that is outrageous. Meaning this is a slam dunk. But being Romney he thought well, maybe a million is too high and $10 will not be understood. So he chose the middle path, which of course is the wrong thing to do," Charles Krauthammer said about Gingrich betting Romney that he would not return money he made from "bankrupting companies" when he was with Bain Capital.

“We have actual conservatives running too”
Name the better conservative who has over 5% of the vote.
Good morning;)
Being a glutton for punishment - listening to Fox’s background babble as I FReep and caffeine up for the day.
Here we go again: Gretchen actually bringing up Glenn Beck’s name - must have permission from management in order to bash Newt and give Romney a lift. I thought Beck was dead to Fox.
Fox is so fickle.
I think you mean Romney. Newt hasn’t been handed anything....especially from elitist establishment beltway folks like krauthammer.
What does one expect from the RINO Krauthammer,
who has a LONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG history
as THE sociopath-enabler for the DNC ... and RINOs?
Fox is UNWATCHABLE!! Almost NONE of them are conservative....they have WAAAAYYYYY too many Democrats on!! I can watch any other station and get that.
What does it matter? We have either mormon progressive or non-mormon progressive. I don’t care about religion.
Both are moderate republicans who have openly bashed conservatives. Newt did that few months ago. We can of course hope that his last 10 years did not tell anything about Newt and now the real Newt (conservative) emerges. Who knows.
Newt can do crazy things, like pushing for amnesty or global warming. I’ll take my chances with a conservative.
Progressive like Newt or Mitt, no thanks.
Or, people could see the RCP video you re-blogged here:
Or the original Fox News interview in full here:

So you would rather have Obama then......Got it. And you go out of your way to help the Leftists win......Got it again.......
“Newt may think he is smarter than Romney, but he is not. I believe a law degree and an MBA trumps a history degree any day...”
You are SO wrong. Intelligence is NOT measured by the degree(s) one has.
PS I’d like to see the quotation cited where Speaker Gingrich calls FDR the the BEST president of the 20th century.
I could not disagree more. Newt may think he is smarter than Romney, but he is not. I believe a law degree and an MBA trumps a history degree any day, not that this matters. I wouldn't vote for either one of them. And if Mitt Romney wasn't in this race, you wouldn't even consider voting for Newt and his progressive government solutions.Newt is way smarter than Romney.
I think we can agree that there is plenty of stupidity to go around:Mitt Romney has zero chance of winning the nomination. He can't win New York, Pennsylvania, California, or any Southern state. There won't be enough delegates remaining for him to win. He may win NH, MI, and CO, but I would bet he doesn't even win Utah. So once everyone figures that out, the next step on the agenda will be to nominate a conservative candidate. Except we will have an even bigger problem standing in the way - Newt Gingrich. It is acquired wisdom and experience only that teach incredulity, and they very seldom teach it enough. The wisest and most cautious of us all frequently gives credit to stories which he himself is afterwards both ashamed and astonished that he could possibly think of believing. - Adam SmithTaking the position, as Newt does, that his business dealings were on the up-and-up, Newt's response to Romney was perfectly opposite Romney's attack: "You say that I should give back all my legitimately gained income, what if I say that you should give back all of yours! See how easily anyone can do that to anybody?"So in that sense Krauthammer's attack misses the mark. He can support Mitt's argument that Newt's income was illegitimate, and then make the point that Newt's argument is a weak socialist argument in defense of an indefensible (in Krauthammer's mind) position. Do I wish that Newt had found a different way to earn a living after his Speakership? You bet. I will add that I wish Newt didn't have the marital history that he does - and that he had never said a favorable word about the AGW fraud.
But do I agree with Newt that the only reason Romney isn't the career politician Romney accuses Newt of being is that Romney wasn't good enough at it to defeat Ted Kennedy in that election 17 years ago? Yup!
It's my understanding that this primary will run under proportional, rather than winner-take-all, rules. If so, it's highly unlikely that anyone will lock up the nomination before the convention. We could end up wondering if a dark horse will come out as the nominee, for all we can be sure of in that case. And if such be the truth of the matter, it could end up mattering a lot whether Michell Bachman and Rick Perry both stay in, and keep each other from reaching the threshold of winning delegates, or if one of them endorses the other and allows him/her to go into the convention with some bargaining chips.if Gingrich goes up against Obama, Obama wins. It will be 2008 all over again.
That I seriously doubt. Obama might catch a break on the economy; even he might not block recovery that long. So I would not say, "Never." But Obama went into '08 as, basically, a generic Democrat. Journalism didn't tell the public who he was, and they still haven't, and won't - at least, not voluntarily. But stuff happens over 4 years, and if it mostly ain't good stuff, the president won't find it easy to run away from it all, whoever the Pubbies nominate. And to suggest that Newt would fire anyone who criticized Obama, as McCain did in '08, is IMHO farfetched. By now the Obama Administration is a target-rich environment. So it seems inevitable that the Republican will run stronger than McCain did - and Newt won't go tongue-tied the way Rick Perry has. Neither, BTW, would Sarah . . .
So, which conservative are you voting for in the primary?
So it’s okay for Romney to use a socialist bash against Newt but not the other way around. Got it!
Not that my vote matters (late primary state), but both Bachmann or Santorum are pretty decent conservatives.
Both are around 5-10% (I think Bachmann was at 13% in recent IA poll), but given the nature of IA voting, both have a real chance.
In anycase, since we have such a crappy leading candidates, we might have brokered convention or new candidate joining (e.g. as a write-in). Sarah is not totally out of question either, given the dynamics of race.
In anycase, both Newt and Romney are progressive republicans. I really don’t care which of these clowns would be the nominee. They are both equally bad.
?????
Out of curiosity...what is that flavor of Kool-aid in your hand?
The GOP Establisment is SO AFRAID that ROMNEY is the only Candidate that can beat Obama, that they will stop at nothing to stop the challengers.
The one thing Newt has done; is to show the strong value of someone who can strongly verbally communicate.
That's been lacking up until now on our side.
Newt would shred O in a debate.
“Ill take my chances with a conservative.”
Gingrich is a conservative, but since you don’t believe that...
...Name the conservative you support, who has a chance to win.
We don’t have time to dilly and dally, we need to beat Obama with the best alternative.
Newt may be sounding like a conservative, but no way he beats Obama.
