I’m beginning to wonder . . . what percentage of those allergic to Biblical Prophecy maintain such a stance because they can’t bear the thought that their cozy construction on reality is not going to last much longer?

I think that's a huge part of the revulsion the world feels toward the prophecies of Jesus Christ.

Another is that they know that all of this does not mean anything good for them. They do not have the peace about life and eternity that only Jesus can provide so they lash out at Bible prophecy, which, of course, is a terrible threat to them.
