I warned last week that a recession and higher unemployment were about to hit the U.S. economy. On Tuesday, the Bureau of Economic Analysis cut their estimate of growth in the third quarter ending September from 2.5% to 2%. Then on Wednesday, the Federal Reserve rocked financial markets by forcing Americas 31 largest U.S. banks to stress test balance sheets to determine their capability to withstand an 8% drop in the economy; which would cause home prices to plunge by 21%, and unemployment rate to jump to 13%.

All because we have an arrogant inexperienced community narcessist who was voted in by American Idol idiots who bought the sh## he was selling in a nice wrapper.
“We export farm goods.
Thats pretty much it anymore.”
Not even close. Agricultural products are less than 12% of our total exports.

Tell us what we still make.
I can name one:
Jetliners. Can’t really think of anything else we’re still selling a lot of.
Maybe Zippo lighters.
I am a protectionist.
Straight up. America first.
< radical > Walking into WalMart is an un-American act. < /radical >
I thought it was pretty self evident that, unlike your unsupported claims, the charts I cited to show US Industrial Production is rising and is going up at a rate typical of other post-recession periods.
Maybe not. With the Democrats continuing obstacles to our developing our own readily available and abundant energy sources while mandating pie-in-the-sky alternative energy sources like ethanol, we are creating shortages and increasing the prices of gasoline, wheat and corn. At some point other countries won't be able to buy our products.
Maybe if you did a little research and educated yourself you would know the answer to these questions and not have to be continuously corrected on threads like this with your unsupported and inaccurate postings and your cringing negativism.
I once again ask you patiently, to tell readers what it is we still make.
If you have a hard time thinking of anything, you can go to Walmart for ideas.
(good luck with that)
Or any hardware store. Or target. Anywhere.
WHAT TO WE MANUFACTURE?
Tell us.
Here is a suggestion, buy from any country except China.
I've been on a decade long boycott of Chinese goods.
Get this. Went to purchase a new pair of boots. Went to Cavanders Western store, about 80% of all their cowboy boots are made in China.
So, couldn't help myself when the sales lady asked...”can I help you”. Yes, I answered. Do you have any boots made in America!
She got this stunned look on her face. She worked for Cavanders and didn't realize the boots were made in China.
Something as American as the Western boot, something as uniquely Texan....MADE IN CHINA. That pisses me off.
So, I went to facebook, friended Justin boot co. and Tony Lama boot co. and lodged my complaint for millions to see.
The response I received from their customer service reps were priceless. Major craw-fishing...before the masses.
I shopped around, found a pair of boots...Made in the good ol U S of A.
Please don’t talk like a liberal.
Back your opinion up with fact else you look like a fool.
Yes certainly we are importing more than we export, but sadly that is life. A truly free market means FREE. Companies should look at the best way to make more profit. Those profits keep the company moving forward, and competitive in a global market. (Sometimes it’s still not enough with foreign companies getting government money)
We do export lots of products. My company alone is exporting close to $10B/year. That’s one company.

I understand many people have lost their jobs. But the bottom line is this... low skill jobs need to go wherever the jobs can be done the cheapest. If I can train a person to do a job in a couple months... well that’s a low-skill job.
The true way out of the problems we face are easier than the government would have us sheep believe.
Companies want 3 things:
1.) Certainty
2.) Competitive Tax profile
3.) Skilled reliable workers
1.) If we put certainty in the Government... that no additional taxes, levies or penalties for success would be implemented things would get better. (Imagine if the next president pushed though a plan to lock in place through congress of course a static plan to cap all Taxes, to cut the rate to 10% then... and this is key... RAISE taxes by 2% every year for 4 years) This would give companies a reason to move NOW. Not stay on the sidelines. A well communicated Plan give us certainty.
2.) Lower corporate taxes. (Mentioned above) I’d actually advocate the elimination of the corporate federal tax.
3.) Create a new school system from our community colleges. This school system would be devoted to Tech&Trades and heavily promote apprenticeship programs.
If someone wants a meaningless 2 or 4 year degree in Liberal Arts... that’s on their dime.
Sorry for the long reply, but your model of protectionism would only lead to one thing. The destruction of profitable companies and instead the replacement by Union and government connected companies. You may as well say you want Fascism to help save the day.
You want to really change the game... apply an export tax to agriculture. Make it an index that tracks various imports. :) A food for oil trade! /sarc
Cheers,
Will not do a darn bit of good to by American, Atlas Srugged our
business owners have had enough until we free them this is what we
are left with!!!!!!! Government is in every part of our lives right down to
light bulbs!!!!!!
Electronics? What?
We still make liberals.
We should figure out how to export them.

I marvel so many otherwise brilliant, politically sophisticated, no-bullcrap geopolitically savvy conservatives who without wavering stood down the Soviet Union.
Are utterly in a coma now.
What happened? Did we buy from the USSR? We most certainly did nothing of the sort.
And we prevailed. So why now, are we doing exactly the opposite?
Seems like if a strategy works, don’t then do the opposite!!
Why are we?
Someone please explain.
Hear, hear!
Since our country was funded by levies and tariffs pre-Civil War that makes our founding fathers fascists. If I was good at photo shop I'd put a Nazi armband on Jefferson just to show you how stupid that comment was/is.
