Q. "You were asked about world government and you said 'there is no world government'. What is your role in groups like the bohemian club, freemasonry, and that sort of thing, Council on Foreign Relations?

Gingrich: "I don't belong to the Bohemian Club, I have no role in freemasonry. And my primary activity in Council on Foreign Relations was on figuring out how to fight terrorism"

Newt Draws Fire

NEW YORK

[...]

Then there is the frolicking in the woods.

Miss Dowd noted that Mr. Gingrich would spend the weekend at the Bohemian Grove, ``the exclusive men's club in northern California. . . . The camp is a saturnalia of juvenilia, with a lot of old white rich guys running around naked and in sheets, costumed as Druids. They drink dawn-to-dusk gin fizzes, relieve themselves on redwoods, and put on theatricals where they dress up like women.''

Well yes, but if you are playing the part of a woman in a theatrical, what should you dress like? Miss Dowd might as well have written that she doesn't understand why the people in the Metropolitan Opera chorus go around clutching spears.

About five years ago, CBS's Leslie Stahl did an interview with me about women joining the Century Association. A few minutes into the discussion she interrupted herself. ``Would you be willing to talk about the Bohemian Club?''

Well, I said, it isn't something we're supposed to talk about. . . .

``Well,'' Miss Stahl pressed, ``what about this business of going around naked?''

I lowered my voice. ``In the years I've been going to the Bohemian Club,'' I whispered, ``I have seen men naked only in the shower, and now I'll tell you something in confidence.'' Her eyes hungered for my revelation. The camera whirred. ``The Admissions Committee of the Bohemian Grove does not like to admit to membership people who shower with their clothes on.'' Miss Stahl simply smiled, gamely.

Then why are you so angry to find out that Newt is a member?

As to why it is a hot topic, simply because a lot of idiots out there think it is some sort of big conspiratorial thing and some evil, vile organization.

Where did anyone on this tread accuse the CFR or Bohemian Club of being vile?

I'm not angry, Bro.

I just refuse to wet my pants over something as innocuous as the CFR while the Marxist in the White House is doing his best to follow the Cloward-Piven strategy for bringing my country to its knees. I simply try and keep things in perspective while maintaining my sense of proportion.

You can now go back to destroying all the people who would stop that process.

I'm obviously a conspiracy illiterate. You've shattered my innocence, and will no longer be able to enjoy the 4th of July parade.

Some people think there is a right-wing elite defending us from the left-wing elite. Others think there is only a unified establishment preying upon the rest of us.

I guess you didn't understand what I was saying, on many occasions it's all rumor or smoke and mirrors no matter what it is in this case. And in this case, he denies that he's a member of something and dullard immeadiately begin sayint that his denial is proof that he really is a member.

William F. Buckley, Jr. appears to confirm that Gingrich attended the Bohemian Grove. (post 82 on this thread)

Actually Ms. Dowd makes the charge he attended, Buckley just made a joke about it, neither confirming nor denying it.

Actually Buckley attempted to defend Gingrich by defending the Bohemian practice of dressing up like women, with which Dowd had linked Gingrich as a Bohemian. If Gingrich did not attend, Buckley would not have had to bring up Bohemian practices in order to defend Gingrich—not that there is anything wrong with attending Bohemian Grove or dressing up like a woman.

Oh, you think you are in trouble - I mistyped “sublime” as “sulime”.

There will be entire web pages discussing the heretofor unheard of degree of a “Sulime Master Mason”.

Sigh.

I heard that discussions on the creation of the Federal Reserve involved bankers. Can you believe it?

Newt wasn't a "member" of Bohemian Grove, but he was there at the festivities in the 1990s.

He's also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

I'm not sure any of that matters, though.
