When I saw Herman Cains interview with Wolf Blitzer yesterday afternoon, this immediately jumped out at me:
.........

Do you have a more recent interview Cain has given on the subject? If so, could you please give us a link? Thanks.
Are Scalia, Thomas, Alito and Edwards wrong when they agree with Cain and say that the States have the legal authority to enact reasonable restrictions on firearms? It's a simple question. Are they all wrong? Is this what you believe?
You keep posting replies to item 1, but posting them to me as if you are responding to something I wrote. If you actually want to respond to something I wrote, could you hit the reply button on my comments?
Given that your responses are useless, there’s no way anybody here is going to figure out what particular comment you are making an assinine response to, if you can’t follow standard posting procedures.
You also might try putting the word “GUN” somewhere in one of your posts, so you could at least PRETEND you were discussing the article.
Herman Cain on Second Amendment Rights May 2, 2011

This is what he means by states rights; conceal carry laws.
Ouch! THAT is going to leave a mark.
If this is legit, Cain is going to be busy trying to unscrew this issue now.
Not yet. I guess I might be expected to, since he and I both agreed on a candidate in 2008, but I haven’t jumped on the Cain Train yet.
I did sign his petition though, so I don’t reject him.
He said what he said. YOU said states have no right to have any say over weapons. I asked you a perfectly reasonable question that blew YOUR statement to to hell, and you tell me I am not sticking to the topic.
Seems to me you have answered nothing. You made an absolute statement and you cannot back it up. As usual.
Many words in a post doesn’t make you smart. Obfuscation doesn’t make you right. Cain was right. YOU are wrong. Why should he change his statement because YOU don’t get it?
That is helpful for people who are apparently incapable of reading the “date” field. You know there is a date field, where you are supposed to put the date of the article. It’s where most of us look to find what date the article was posted.
But I guess that is too hard for some people, so it’s a good thing to also put it in the title of the thread. I agree with you on that. I posted two old items yesterday, and I put the date in the headline on the one from a previous year. Oh well.
That's a false dichotomy. The U.S. is a democracy and it is also a republic. Technically, calling it a republic is only partially correct just like calling it a democracy is also partially correct. My statement, however, paraphrases a famous quote by Winston Churchill.
Yes, that is one of those colloquial expressions. You know, like “were you born yesterday”?
In the part RIGHT AFTER the snippet you quoted, I mentioned a longer time frame. That also was a generality, although during that time period Cain and Block both attacked a former Cain staffer and then had to walk back the attack, and Block then attacked some guy falsely and had to admit he based his claim on insufficient information.
But nothing I know that he said yesterday. It was just a figure of speech.
Jimmy Carter met those three “qualifications”. I’m guessing you actually understand what the other freeper meant by “unqualified”.
I’ll say though I try to avoid the words “unqualified” because I don’t want to confuse people who might get tripped up the way you claim to have been (but I don’t believe you really were, I respect you more than that).
It’s NOT legit, read the whole thread.
Cain is clear, “I support, strongly support, the 2nd amendment. I dont support onerous legislation thats going to restrict peoples rights in order to be able to protect themselves as guaranteed by the 2nd amendment.”

I have seen Mr. Cain address the “gun control” issue several times. He does not have any desire to take away our guns. He has stated that local governments and states should be the entities responsible for “gun control”. I do not consider that statement to indicate anything negative about his position on our second amendment rights.
My wife and I do not want violent felons to be on the streets with firearms. I don't know any responsible gun owners who want criminals on the streets with the ability to shoot up our communities. We want our local authorities to be able to regulate firearms. I realize that there are those who think that they would prefer no regulation on firearms at all. We have collector friends who legally own weapons that in the wrong hands could be used with devastating effect. I don't want tanks, artillery pieces, and machine guns in the hands of criminals. I doubt whether any of our Republican candidates want that.
Trying to twist Mr. Cain's comments on firearms is wrong.
What you are missing is how something can be quoted out of context to confuse people.
Any 9th grader knows 2nd Amendment. The right to bear arms! But says nothing about how guns can be purchased, should registration be required, if concealed carry should be allowed, should convicted felons be allowed to own guns, should gun owners be required to pass a skills test, etc etc. And these issues should not be addressed with one size fits all from the Feds. It should be the state’s responsibility.
And yet another off-topic comment. Did you know this thread is about Cain’s positions on Gun Control? Do you have an opinion about Cain and Gun Control? Do you have any positive things to say about Cain and his advocacy of the 2nd amendment?
Still haven’t answered the questions...
That’s YOUR question. I provided MY opinion on the article and on Cain’s quotes. I also provided my opinion on the 2nd amendment and it’s application, and what would be constitutioanlly permissible under law.
I didn’t post it in response to you, I posted it above your question. If you think my comments don’t address your question, post a reply to my comments. Don’t expect me to repeat myself just because YOU have some question you want answered.
I’m not yelling at you. I actually answered your previous post to me asking me the question, but I realise I’m getting behind things so you hadn’t read that when you posted this. And if you didn’t like THAT answer, please reply to it and I’ll try to answer you there.
BobL is a candidate for office? And he’s neck-and-neck with Huntsman?
Did I miss a big announcement?
Are Supreme Court Justices Thomas, Scalia, Alito and Edwards wrong when they agree with Cain and say that the States have the legal authority to enact reasonable restrictions on firearms?
Very weak indeed. Bob of course gave it quite a “spin”, given that Gingrich defended Cain’s innocence and was not “siding” with Anita Hill, because there was no “Anita Hill” thing to side with. Gingrich simply said you shouldn’t joke about sexual harrassment, which seems like a reasonable statement to make. But I realise that the Cain folks are extremely sensitive about anybody saying ANYthing bad about their candidate, even though they have no trouble posting articles from 1993 to attack candidates they don’t like.
