Lose the machine gun. Chews up too much ammo.

Bad advice. Buy more ammo. Nothing says "STAY AWAY" like a full auto (700RPM+) burst of a machinegun.

Every rural prepper should have plans for an M1919 and make rangecards for their property.

Even if you don't have to engage people, word gets around to "try the next farm, this one isn't worth the risk".

That is key point IMO ..... Stay away from the trouble yet be prepared if it should come.

Stay safe.

but the rest are to help get the flat-landers out of the ditch when they think their BMW with summer tires can handle our roads.

If you can afford it or can make it get an alternative source of electricity which is IMHO the most important thing right after food and water. Without electricity your life will be a misery.

Our youngest son, who is a Senior in college, is watching both the eCat and LFTR technologies very carefully. He and hubby would LOVE to build a little low energy nuke reactor so we'd have all the electricity we'd ever need. But before that happens, hubby will set up a nice big solar array that he'd build himself, at a much lower cost than the solar panels that are on the market. In the sweet, sunny South, they'd provide plenty of photo-voltaic energy.

We are either doing a solar array or micro hydro if we can find a property with a fast moving stream. Backing it up with a whole house generator. We are obsessed with having electric when that grid goes down and at some point it will. The E cat looks promising. I hope its not just a hoax.

"Maybe I’d be better off moving to Maine or someplace down South where people can handle a bit of hardship without turning into a bowl of wimpering jell-o."

Come to Idaho. We need good, right-thinking people to dilute the influence of the Commiefornians and other Left Coasters that have infected our state over the last 10-15 years. Idahoans are tough, prepared, conservative, rational Christians who are the friendliest people in the country. But WTSHTF, we'll be a force to reckon with.

It pays to stock up on lime - good for the lawn, garden and makes quick work of ‘rotting stuff’.

Sorry didn’t see your post - have spent the last week setting up sap pipeline number two for sugaring next spring. Found out last year it’s not much fun when it’s zero degrees out. I love northern VT and the self-reliant people here; couldn’t wait to get back and, after 25 years and 17 PCS moves, finally made it.
