Exclusive: Two women accused Cain of inappropriate behavior By: Jonathan Martin and Maggie Haberman and Anna Palmer and Kenneth P. Vogel October 30, 2011 08:00 PM EDT
During Herman Cains tenure as the head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s, at least two female employees complained to colleagues and senior association officials about inappropriate behavior by Cain, ultimately leaving their jobs at the trade group, multiple sources confirm to POLITICO.
The women complained of sexually suggestive behavior by Cain that made them angry and uncomfortable, the sources said, and they signed agreements with the restaurant group that gave them financial payouts to leave the association. The agreements also included language that bars the women from talking about their departures.
In a series of comments over the past 10 days, Cain and his campaign repeatedly declined to respond directly about whether he ever faced allegations of sexual harassment at the restaurant association. They have also declined to address questions about specific reporting confirming that there were financial settlements in two cases in which women leveled complaints.
POLITICO has confirmed the identities of the two female restaurant association employees who complained about Cain but, for privacy concerns, is not publishing their names.
Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon told POLITICO the candidate indicated to campaign officials that he was vaguely familiar with the charges and that the restaurant associations general counsel had resolved the matter.

AMEN!
C’mon, Marty..Let’s hold fire..and BEAT OBAMA
Cane is affable, likeable, has a good sense of humor and can debate. Other than that, he has from the beginning seemed to me to be exceptionally impressed with himself and such allegations would not be a shock. Even if true, it’s doubtful in this day and age it will hurt his campaign much.
Hey Victoria, check this out.
I wouldn’t put it past Rick. To be honest, I don’t think Romney would have done this...he has said on numerous occasions that he likes Herman (to the point of having him on the ticket). Why would you sabotage a candidate to put him on your ticket...that would hurt the ticket, right? Perry has the most to gain by this...and I wouldn’t put it past his wife to do something like this. However, this seems like a Left-wing hatchet job.
Three postings already. The MittHeads and PerryBots are exuberant!
Hmmm, I bet you impress yourself too.....maybe your wife, your kids, been successful?
Should we all have the same opinion of you? Should I be shocked by someone who can be shocked by another that has greater virtues and morals than you?
Hmmm, maybe you're projecting or are you defending your candidate again the indefensible.....so many questions.
Should I listen to a poster who is obviously defending a personal position and can' even spell the persons name whom is is attacking correctly?
Your reply is incoherent.
I don't know. It could be neither Mutt nor Prick. Or it could be nothing more complicated than libtards just acting like libtards.
Yes, it has a few typos, but go back a re read it...you'll get the gist.
I stopped, we exchanged info, I called my insurance on the spot and the man said into the phone that he was not injured, everyone was fine. The man was not even IN the PARKED car at the time.
But this was in New Orleans, where everyone is a crook, and is sue happy. So I photo-documented everything, including how far from the curb the guy had parked.
Several days later, I get a call from my insurance, telling me the guy is claiming neck injury. So my insurance company settles with him for $250. A lousy $250. It went against me, of course, but my insurance company said with this settlement, he is saying, in writing, that we are settled - so there could be no further claim.
The guy wasn't injured; he wasn't even in the car. I didn't want my insurance to settle because the whole thing was bogus. But it was cheaper for them to get it in writing that the case was closed, than to fight it. So they paid, and the guy went away. (And they trained yet another person that if you lie, you'll get a check.)
If my sister had $20 for every time a guy said something inappropriate, or every time she got hit on, she would be a wealthy woman. Men hit on women, some women egg it on, some don't, some men are pigs, some aren't.
My former boss got in trouble because he made a comment to a pregnant woman about maybe naming the baby after him. The woman hated my boss, so she claimed that was sexual harassment. She wanted his job, and she was vindictive enough to push it.
I bet you a million dollars there’s a lot more to come. John Fund tried to warn me. I met him at the debate last week and he told me that he’s known Cain for fifteen years and that he was NOT Presidential. The way he said it has haunted me...today, it starts.
After several days of not responding to the question, Gordon emailed on Oct. 24 that any dispute about Cains conduct at the restaurant association was settled amicably among all parties many years ago.
These are old and tired allegations that never stood up to the facts, Gordon said in an email response. This was settled amicably among all parties many years ago, and dredging this up now is merely part of a smear campaign meant to discredit a true patriot who is shaking up the political status quo.
Astute observers have to note that if there was truly nothing to the allegations, why was there need for settlement? I know Gordon changed his tune a few days later and changed his wording from "settled" to "resolved," but the fact that it was settled leads me to believe that there is something more than just a dispute that was ended amicably.
Well, I guess Cain can always say he was joking or that he didnt mean it, or what he meant to say or do was different than what he actually said or did. He is always misunderstood, after all.
I think I saw you gesture when you typed that. I’m offended. Where’s my check?
I tend to agree. While it is true that sometimes accusers are paid to go away, the fact is that a corporation doesn’t want to get in the habit of giving accusers money like that as it encourages other lawsuits and also frivolous (or outright fraudulent) lawsuits.
So it’s not fair to say the settlements or resolutions is evidence that there is nothing amiss going on here.
Further, it is alarming that there are two cases and two women, or as a lawyer would say, ‘at least’ two cases and two women. Two is the start of a pattern. I’d be interested to see the details of the womens’ cases, as well as any other women who might come forward.
I am reminded of the tales of sexual shenanigans on the part of Arnold Schwarzenegger on the eve of his first election. Republicans instinctively circled the wagons. Over time, it became clearer that the stories could not be dismissed out of hand.
Wait and see.
Why are you attacking Perry over this?
This kind of stuff comes out about every candidate except Obama...I wonder why not Obama?
The fact that Cain is rising in the polls is a threat and concern to Obama and the liberal elite MSM. They haven't stopped attacking Perry, either, though they do prefer Romney over the other candidates.
It is becoming rather monotonous, and unbecoming of FR.
I hope we can all focus, before it is too late, who the real enemy is....
Nite all.
