My apologies. My error. I could have sworn I read he was Jewish in one of the books on Hitler’s early years and political development. Thanks!

Both of his parents were born Jews, IIRC, so it’s not exactly a big mistake. The are plenty of Jew-haters on the web that insist that Marx was Jewish and that his philosophy came from the Talmud! Just FYI, Marx’ wife was a Prussian aristocrat and his best friend a wealthy capitalist.

Karl Heinrich Marx was born on 5 May 1818 at 664 Brückergasse in Trier, a town located in the Kingdom of Prussia's Province of the Lower Rhine.[12] His ancestry was Jewish, with his paternal line having supplied the rabbis of Trier since 1723, a role that had been taken up by his own grandfather, Meier Halevi Marx; Meier's son and Karl's father would be the first in the line to receive a secular education.[13] His maternal grandfather was a Dutch rabbi.[14] Karl's father, Herschel Marx, was middle-class and relatively prosperous, owning a number of Moselle vineyards; he converted from Judaism to the Protestant Christian denomination of Lutheranism prior to his son's birth, taking on the German forename of Heinrich over Herschel.[3]
