Ingrid Newkirk’s Morbid Mortuary Demands

Ingrid Newkirk — the queen PETA moonbat best known for her morally depraved declaration that “a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy” — may be even more disturbed than we knew. Here’s what she wants done with her body after the Devil has dragged her twisted soul down to hell:

a. That the “meat” of my body, or a portion thereof, be used for a human barbecue, to remind the world that the meat of a corpse is all flesh, regardless of whether it comes from a human being or another animal, and that flesh foods are not needed;

b. That my skin, or a portion thereof, be removed and made into leather products, such as purses, to remind the world that human skin and the skin of other animals is the same and that neither is “fabric” nor needed, and that some skin be tacked up outside the Indian Leather Fair each year to serve as a reminder of the government’s need to abate the suffering of Indian bullocks who, after a life of extreme and involuntary servitude, as I have seen firsthand, are exported all over the world in this form;

c. That in remembrance of the elephant-foot umbrella stands and tiger rugs I saw, as a child, offered for sale by merchants at Connaught Place in Delhi, my feet be removed and umbrella stands or other ornamentation be made from them [et cetera, ad nauseam].

Discussions of an immortal soul aside, those animals may suffer - but they don’t have a conscious, reflective “self” that knows that they are suffering.

I quite agree. However, what she actually said is, "When it comes to having a central nervous system, and the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst," these animals are much like us. Which is of course quite true.

The list of other elements we have in common is almost endless: We're all mammals, we're vertabrates, we all contain DNA, we're all omnivores, etc., etc., etc.

Newkirk's "argument" here exhibits several types of logical fallacies. The most obvious being the non sequitur. She produces these facts, and then "reasons" from these facts to the idea that these animals should have legal rights. But her conclusion does not necessarily follow from these facts.

Quite true. I’ve seen the quote many times before by her opponents. It’s interesting that most leave off the first part of the sentence, which is at least factually correct and makes her look less like a nut, in and of itself.

Using a quote in this way is intellectually dishonest.

Using a quote in this way is intellectually dishonest.

I would have to agree, and point out that the left does it just as much, if not more.

Very true. But we should be better than that. Defeat their actual arguments, not the straw man version.

Chip and shred her corpse, compost the remains, fertilize a patch of poison ivy.

Why not just bury her upside down with her buttocks exposed to use as a bicycle rack.

Waiter!! Remove this plate at once. I ordered Steak Diane and you've brought me Steak Newkirk instead. It is tough and not edible...it is slop!

I agree that to use a portion in and of itself is dishonest, but that isn’t really the gist of the article.

The article itself doesn’t take on the merits of her quote, but instead deals with what she herself derives from it.

I think it is immaterial whether the quote is right, wrong or truncated with respect to her stated desire to be rotisseried and fed to other humans to make her point.

Using a quote in this way is intellectually dishonest.

..and that's why I posted the entire quote in post #3,and it's also linked in the article itself!

Nothing dishonest that I see!

And kudos to you for doing so!

My point was that I’ve seen this quote numerous times before, and I had never seen the first part of the sentence before.

Deleting the first part of a sentence to significantly change its meaning and make one’s opponents look bad is IMO dishonest tactics. And pretty obviously most of those who quote her do so in this way.

I did not include you personally in this group.

Her plans sound remarkably like Tibetan sky burial.

I won’t go into detail, but it is quite a gruesome process by our standards.

Thanks for not going into detail.I’m having enough trouble keeping lunch down with the “Newkirk Nuggets” image still fresh in my head!
