In honor of "dmr" passing, read the
UNIX-HATERS HANDBOOK. His anti-forward in the book is both hilarious and spot on.
There will be no more segfaults for you hereafter, so rest in peace and bon appetit indeed.

Thank you. I'll re-read that, and think of DR.
Dear lord, he was was 70. All the cool guys are getting old and dying.

That’s funny, but I honestly don’t know what to make of it. First, it’s hard to tell how serious they are. And if these guys are really so disgusted with Unix, I can’t imagine what they must think of Windows! Of course, that book was written back in 1994. I wonder what they think of Linux now.

I’ve just read some of this book, and I now realize that they *are* serious. Unix and C/C++ *do* have some serious fundamental flaws. But you can’t really blame Ritchie for the fact that others were so eager to adopt his system. As others have pointed out, he was really designing a system for himself and his co-workers, not the world.

Thanks, I hadn't seen ugh and reading the intro brought back fond memories. I'm a Xerox PARC alum who used Dorados and Cedar/Mesa Pilot/Co-Pilot. Sigh. Even NeXT would have been much better than we have today, and I am not using Windows. Regards,
