When Florida defied Republican National Committee rules to move the states 2012 presidential primary from an RNC-approved March date to Jan. 31, conservatives immediately suspected that state party insiders had orchestrated the move to help former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney thwart the momentum of Tea Party-backed candidate Herman Cain. Some Florida activists focused their suspicion on moderates in state party leadership former Gov. Charlie Crist as orchestrating the change in the date. The move was seen as helping the centrist Romney, whose superior fund-raising resources would enable him to score an early knockout in the Sunshine State before Cain could fully leverage the boost he got from an upset victory in a Sept. 24 Florida GOP straw poll.
Yet while the moderate Republican faction in Tallahassee was immediately blamed for the primary date-switch, only insiders knew that a key factor was a push from inside the staff of the Tea Partys own 2010 hero, Sen. Marco Rubio. GOP sources in Washington and Florida say that Rubios senatorial chief of staff, Cesar Conda, has been a major force in persuading Florida Republicans to move their primary to January.
Cesar used to be with Romneys campaign, one informed source explained to me in an interview today, adding: Conda used his contacts to push the primary to the 31st because they want Romney in.
Condas loyalty to Romney was highlighted in a Politico story by Scott Wong last week: At least six past and current Rubio Senate aides, including chief of staff Cesar Conda and his deputy, Terry Sullivan, worked for Romneys 2008 presidential bid, establishing a direct link and a line of communication between the front-runner for the 2012 GOP nomination and the front-runner in the Republican veepstakes. Theres also a trail of fundraisers, donors and consultants who have overlapping relationships with Rubio and Romney.

Some have speculated that, by delivering Florida for Romney, Conda would not only help Romney lock up the 2012 presidential nomination, but also secure the 2012 vice-presidential pick for Rubio.
I can’t see Rubio wanting much of anything to do with Romney. All he needs to do is call Palin for a refresher course on how well that works.
Why go to all the trouble to elect another liberal?
RINOmnehy is must Obama, albeit much more intelligent, but just as clueless about real life.
As I keep saying, I’ll not vote for him.
No, it wouldn’t allow idiotic liberalism to continue, it would merely allow it to continue a bit more slowly.
RINOmney has two more operational brain cells than Obama....which - if I calculate correctly, gives him roughly four.
When is Romney gonna get a clue? Cain will keep gathering momentum and Newt will overtake him soon....
FIRE that bastards ass!
While this move may have been an attempt to assist in nominating Romney, I believe this change was well underway before Cain started “surging”.
I will not vote for romney. Screw the republican establishment. America is in her death spiral now so let 0 have the credit for her demise.
If true, I am disappointed.
Indeed.
The GOP stinks to High Heaven.
They aren’t for me, and I definietly ain’t for them.
Now we know who to blame for knocking Sarah out of running. It was the FL push up that made it impossible for her to organize her ground game. I’m convinced that is why she dropped out. She could not have won with a whole month knocked off her organizing time.
Good news and bad news. The bad news is that GOP leaders are willing to help a big government liberal to get our nomination. The good news is that they see he needs help. Let’s pray that the help is too little, too late, and that RomneyCare will go into the history books as a blip and not stay on the books as the law of what used to be a free country.
If Marco hooks up with Romney he won’t get any more support from me.
She should have prepared to enter earlier.
However, I definitely agree that the GOP is trying to ace people out by changing primary dates.
Quite frankly, I am disgusted with the GOP.
I think most of us are. I would like to see a movement to establish a TEA PARTY and put an end to the GOP. Couldn’t establish it during an election year, but if we were committed to forming a new party, we could work on it full time before the next election year.
Agreed.
After this cycle, should America still in fact be standing, I am as done as I can be with the GOP.
There is a lot to be said for keeping the old, familiar name. If the Tea Party candidates can take a significant fraction of new GOP seats, and if the new conservative politicians can withstand pressure from the GOP insiders, we may be able to keep the GOP name and assets but move the party back toward what it was supposed to have been. It worked when the Communist Party USA took over the Democrat Party, and I'd like to see it happen on our side but in a positive direction.
That would be the ideal, but after what has happened after 2010, it looks to be almost impossible. The tentacles of progressivism extend throughout every facet of D.C. We may have to come at them from the outside.
