The 2012 political outlook for US Senate races looks favorable for a Republican takeover. For starters, the GOP needs only to defend 10 seats, whereas the Democrats have 22 seats to defend (counting the seats held by Independent Senators Joe Lieberman and Bernie Sanders who caucus with the Democrats). With the Democrats holding a fairly slim 53-47 majority in the Senate, if Republicans were to win just 13 or 14 of the 32 races at stake, they would regain control of the US Senate.

As long as the head of your party is a buffoon, and everybody knows it, it's going to be tough.
Safe GOP pick-up: ND
Leans GOP pick-up: MO, MT, NE and VA
Possible GOP pick-up (toss-up): FL, MI, NM, OH, PA and WI
Possible DEM pick-up (toss-up): MA
other possibilities: CT, MN and NJ for GOP; and, NV for DEM
Net GOP pick-up: 5 to 11
If a GOP candidate won the presidency, and the GOP controlled both houses of Congress, would that be a good thing? That seems to be recipe for them lurching to the left, and the GOP is overall farther to the left now.
Please put some names, and IDEAS to these State races for the US Senate. Let us know who and why we at FR should support.

Thanks and again, welcome to Free Republic. :)
After the last decade I've begun to fear that if the Republicans had an 80 seat majority in the Senate..
they'd somehow still let the democraps block things.
I'd give anything to have more fire eaters in the Republican ranks. Stop worrying about being “statesmen” and all that other crap and just win!
It's amazing the "best way to win is to lose" reasoning people can come up with sometimes. Yes, let's keep Dems and libs in power, just to make sure things don't move left.
I’m not gonna be upset if we lose the WH but gain the senate.
I don’t mean to bust everyone’s buble, but do you really think the GOP will control the Senate even if they do win the Senate back? McCain and all the other RINO’s will feel empowered to counter every move by a Conservative President and will side with the Dims every time!
Question is, “What are they going to do with it?”
Interesting thoughts ! I feel in some circles in DC, they still don’t believe that they can defeat Obama ! The person they want to sacrifice is Mitt Romney ! They know that, easily media and dems will dereail with one word “ Romney Care”. Also, Romney is going to put every conservative and republican to defend on repealing obama care ! Establishment will be very happy to have Romney !
ya that is today, but the economy and the scandals get worse each week.
the rats are in danger of having an epic defeat.
For me, it is still very early in the process. If the economy continues bad, all the state I show as Leans Republican should shift to the Republican column, and the question will be how of the states now thought to be toss-up will flip toward us and, therefore, how large will be the Republican majority. If any strength starts to gather for economic recovery, we might not pick up any of the toss-ups, and winning three seats and control of the Senate will come down to winning the states I show as Leans Republican, with a pick-up in North Dakota off-setting a loss in Massachusetts. Plus, this early in the process, you’d also be interested in seeing who will secure the Republican nomination, including in some stakes, like Arizona, where we’re thinking we’re going to win in the general, but would like the right person, from our perspective to win the GOP nomination.
Big deal. We’ve had Republicans in charge of the Senate before. What we need are conservatives. Big difference.
It won’t matter unless WE the People can help elect TEA Party Conservatives.
WE LET McCain back in to the Senate! What kind of idiocy was THAT?
South Carolina voted Lindsey Graham back in to the Senate. How can they justify that?
WE MUST STAY ON TOP OF THE ‘RINO’ POPULATION IN CONGRESS AND VOTE EVERYONE OUT.
And We Must VET our Republicans to make sure we don’t get a “TPINO” ... Tea Party In Name Only ... elected.
No wonder people keep telling me “I hate Politics.”
And while we’re at it ... let’s go back and repeal the 17th Amendment ... The Founding Fathers KNEW what they were doing when they had only ONE House popularly elected.
If or When we get a solid conservative in the White House and a GOP Majority in Congress, We The People need to set the repeal of the 17th Amendment as our goal.
Kagan and sotomayor agree.
