That’s exactly my story. I wanted Fred but when he was out the only one I saw as a viable candidate in order to avoid McCain as the nominee was Romney - who would have been a heckuva lot better than getting Obama elected.
Context is so critical.
Light-hearted moment? It was a hypothetical question based on their getting to pick their VP candidate. He could have said anyone on that stage and he picked Romney.
If he didn’t mean Romney, as you seem to be suggesting, then he shouldn’t have said Romney. In fact, Cain’s words were that he WOULD play along.
Then he picked Romney.
He went on to talk of his 2nd choice and his deep regard for Gingrich. Are you saying he’s lying, that he doesn’t really have high regard for Gingrich?
It amazes me that you’re not seeing this. Given a choice he picked ROMNEY.
There is no point in time that Romney was the choice of Free Republic during the last primary election. In fact, that’s when Jim Robinson started the Romney truth-file.
When it was Huckabee, McCain, and Romney, Free Republic pulled out all the stops against flip-floppin’ liberal Mitt Romney. Just go check the RomneyTruthFile to verify this. It’s easy.
If you went for liberal Romney over quasi-conservatives McCain and Huckabee, then shame on you.
Many of us were influenced by Fred’s character on TV into thinking maybe we’d run across a forceful Reaganite. As it turns out he didn’t have a fire in his belly. He is now selling reverse mortgages to old people. What a change 4 years make.
My favorite candidate then, and now if he were running, would be Duncan Hunter. Money wiped him out. He couldn’t get any. That’s hurting Santorum right now.
And when they get out of the tiny states that don’t require as huge a budget, Cain had better have rounded up a lot of cash, because the leaders will be flush with cash.
Whether we like those things called debates or not, we are going to have a referendum on Rick Perry after this next q&a with the press. I’ve been critical of his ability to articulate his ideas. If he doesn’t do a little better, then his cash will dry up, too.
You have been dishonest about this throughout, from claiming to have posted the quote when you’d done no such thing to putting words in Cain’s mouth that he never uttered. You are bound and determined to see this “game” in the worst possible light. Go ahead; that is your prerogative. At least now I know not to listen to anything you say about Cain in the future. First, you’re probably misrepresenting the facts, secondly, you have an obvious ax to grind. Your behavior has been beneath what I had come to expect from you. Otoh, it’s been a glaring heads up. I now know what kind of person you really are, and exactly where you stand re: such things as the truth.
You are simply making stuff up. Anyone can read back through this and read for themselves what I’ve said and not said.
All of that aside, when Cain was asked his choice of VP his mind went first to Romney.
Spin about that fact all you want and it still remains a fact.
If he had meant Bachman, then he should have said Bachmann. If he’d meant Santorum, then he should have said Santorum.
Instead, he said Romney.
Live with it.
Google = Frum Forum. Yeah, I see it. /s
You are even lower than I thought. I kept asking you to post the actual quote, and you kept telling me you already had. Turns out you had NOT posted the quote—only your misleading ‘paraphrase’ [if it can even be called that] of it. So what do you do when I dare to point these FACTS out? Accuse ME of lying! That is purely disgusting. You should be ashamed.
Oh, OUCH! Aw, man, you're harshing my mellow, dude! Reaganaut was saying the same thing about Romney, whom I was treating like the memory of a bad summer cold. I suppose it's always possible that the Stupid Party can catch the disease twice. (sigh)
On the other hand, Cain (not McCain) is surging in the polls. We can still hope that the Tea Party takes over the Republican Party as the liberal-leaning northeastern Establishment becomes less and less relevant. Demographics say that this must happen eventually, but having it this cycle would be best for both the country and the party.
During the last primary season I told one of my die-hard lib friends that we would nominate anybody but McCain. I said McCain had stabbed his own party in the back too many times, and Republicans would not allow such a weasel to be the standard bearer. In one sense I was right, since it was open primaries, independents, moderates and cross-over Dems who saddled us w McLoser. Otoh, nothing has changed. It really could happen again.
I just hope Cain’s surge continues, and he wipes Romney off the map.
That needs a little context: other posters on this thread have pointed out that Cain actually endorsed Romney in the last election. Given that, specifically saying why he does not endorse Romney this time is important. Cain took the opportunity to do so when questioned.
I don't think that there is any conspiracy here to support Romney; quite the opposite, in fact.
It sure looks like I turned off the computer to early last night. I think the smart money is Perry v. Romney for a lot of reasons among them; resources (money), organization, and experience as Gov.
If Cain breaks through and begins winning primaries he is going to have a heck of a time trying to walk back the "squishy" positions and the controversial statements he's made. Anything is possible, but the odds on it are not good.
From my perspective it comes down to liberal-Romney v. conservative-Perry. I don't see how Romney beats obama.
I agree, the smart money is on Perry v Romney for the nod. This sidebar has been very informative.
Is Herman Cain Socially Conservative Enough?,

Compared to whom ???
If Romney is the litmus test even Ron Paul is conservative...
I would definitely say that Cain is both pro-gay and pro-affirmative action, based on the info here:
http://christiancitizens.org/herman_cain_for_president.html
And on the SBA page, what Cain does not support is a “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to protect unborn
children who are capable of feeling pain from abortion.”
And I am definitely no Perry-ite!
