It's doubtful that NY-9's message sent to President Barack Obama yesterday will get through. But the Republican victory in a district that has been held by Democrats since the roaring 20's sent some strong messages to the GOP as well and there are lessons to be learned by Republicans that will be running for office, supporting those who run and voting for those they support throughout the next 14 months.

“Conservatives should not be afraid to stick to their principles or to support Republican candidates who do the same.”

The money quote right there!

That's a shame, I'd have liked to read the whole thing.

You should post it here.

Sad part is there is still 58 precincts still out. I hope Turner can widen the margin.

I think this is a huge victory.

Turner’s a common sense conservative- lower taxes, smaller govt (cut Fed spending by 35%, eliminate Dept of Ag, EPA and reduce Dep of Ed), pro-business, pro-Israel, pro-military, etc...

In other words, we could face a recount here and lose still?

I don’t think there’s any risk of a recount. Weprin conceded this morning and since he doesn’t use the men’s room without the party machine’s permission, I think it’s safe to say the Democrats have surrendered on this one.

“Turner’s a common sense conservative . . .”

Any time someone adds an adjective to “conservative”, it will mean we are going to be disappointed in more than a few of their votes.

That said, this is a fine victory.

You’re right. Anybody remember “compassionate conservative”.

I doubt they could pull it off, guessing there’s 5-7K votes still out and Turner is up by 5K. They’d all have to go to Weprin and I don’t think they could pull that off, or stuff the box without looking way out of proportion to the other precincts. It looks safe.

The next significant election will be on October 4, when West Virginia has a special election for governor.

West Virginia is currently dominated by the Dems. On the other hand, WV is 93% white and its main industry is coal mining. The Dems are apparantly not that confident in the race.
