Obama: “Islam has always been part of our American family”

Well, isn’t that an interesting historical factoid. This, despite the fact that Muslims currently make up less than 1% of the US population – and were mostly non-existent in America prior to the 20th century. Hmmm. Go figure.

I also find it fascinating how Obama – an unimpeachable Christian, we are constantly reminded – can wax so poetic about a faith that is fundamentally opposed to Christianity.

BACON has always been part of our American family.

Islam hasn’t.

Nor has Omoslem.

"... he [Muhammad] declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind ... The precept of the Koran is, perpetual war against all who deny, that Mahomet is the prophet of God ... the faithful follower of the prophet may submit to the imperious necessities of defeat: but the command to propagate the Moslem creed by the sword is always obligatory, when it can be made effective. The commands of the prophet may be performed alike, by fraud, or by force." ... 1829 : President John Quincy Adams

Obama flunked American history.

He's not entirely wrong, although he is in the way he meant it. Islam did give us the United States Marine Corps. "...to the shores of Tripoli."

And a big Semper Fi to all you jarheads out there from your local neighborhood former squid.

Why, Citizen Obama, did you insist Notre Dame cover all crosses when you spoke there?

That doesn't seem very loving or familial.

Like a stopped clock, Obama got this one right. Islam has always been part of our American family, just as infectious disease has always been a part of our lives. The Marine "Corpse" Hymn pays tribute to the role of Islam in our early history, a role that remains unchanged.

In March 1785, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams went to London to negotiate with Tripoli's envoy, Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdrahaman. Jefferson and Adams inquired as to "the ground of the pretensions to make war upon nations who had done them no injury", to which Jefferson reported the ambassador's reply:

It was written in their Koran, that all nations which had not acknowledged the Prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave; and that every mussulman who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise. He said, also, that the man who was the first to board a vessel had one slave over and above his share, and that when they sprang to the deck of an enemy's ship, every sailor held a dagger in each hand and a third in his mouth; which usually struck such terror into the foe that they cried out for quarter at once.

Jefferson reported the conversation to Secretary of Foreign Affairs John Jay, who submitted the Ambassador's comments and offer to Congress. Jefferson argued that paying tribute would encourage more attacks . . . On the night of February 16, 1804, Lieutenant Stephen Decatur led a small contingent of the U.S.'s first Marines in the captured Tripolitan ketch rechristened USS Intrepid, to deceive the guards on board the captured USS Philadelphia . . . The turning point in the war came with the Battle of Derna (April–May 1805). Ex-consul William Eaton, who went by the rank of general, and US Marine First Lieutenant Presley O'Bannon led a mixed force of eight United States Marines and 500 mercenaries on a march across the desert from Alexandria, Egypt to assault and to capture the Tripolitan city of Derna. This was the first time in history that the United States flag was raised in victory on foreign soil.

“islam has always been part of MY ‘american’ family.” is likely the correct quote in his head.
