A man who robbed a 72-year-old Texas business owner at gunpoint is dead after the owner, a former Marine, jumped in his car and chased after him, ramming him against a metal fence.

According to the Houston Chronicle, a tall man forced his way into Kenneth Kobobel, Sr.’s office Friday morning where Kobobel had been chatting with his brother. He put a 9mm handgun to Kobobel’s head, demanded money from them and screamed “You’re dead!”

He emptied the contents of the brother’s wallet and Kobobel handed him $20. Not satisfied with the amount, Kobobel said the man patted him down and upon finding a wad of bills totaling $800 yelled, “You lied to me! You’re dead!”

Kobobel said robber struck him on the head with the barrel of the gun and ran off, warning them to wait before calling 911.

Once he left, Kobobel called 911 and went outside, asking neighbors if they had seen which way he went. He then got into his car and sped off in pursuit.

Kobobel’s son, Kenneth Kobobel, Jr., who pulled up just as his father was leaving, said he wasn’t surprised his father went after the robber.

“He’s an ex-Marine,” he told the Chronicle. “He doesn’t put up with a whole lot of nothing.”

I seem to recall that last year a couple of hoods robbed a sandwich shop that happened to be patronized by a retired Marine.

Apparently, they tried to force him into the restroom where they intended to engage is a bit of witness elimination, but the 71-year-old bad-ass was armed and blew them both away.

There was a lot of soapy weeping from the robber’s family about how bad that Marine was for killing their poor boys. I wonder what happened with that.

Think it was in Florida.

And there was this one in 2007 too—did it with no weapon. I think I want a 70+ year old Marine with me for self-defense:

"ONCE A MARINE, ALWAYS A MARINE: Once a Marine, Always a Marine: This truism was adopted as the official motto of the Marine Corps League. The origin of the statement is credited to a gung-ho Marine Corps Master Sergeant, Paul Woyshner. During a barroom argument he shouted, “Once a Marine, always a Marine!” MSgt. Woyshner was right. Once the title “U.S. Marine” has been earned, it is retained. There are no ex-Marines or former-Marines. There are (1) active duty Marines, (2) retired Marines, (3) reserve Marines, and (4) Marine veterans. Nonetheless, once one has earned the title, he remains a Marine for life."

I respectfully disagree. Someone who was dishonorably discharged from the Corps is an EX-Marine, IMHO. Take my retarded stepson, for instance. Drummed out for possession and failing a UA. All that after a Captain's Mast for failing his first UA. At least that is the story as I understand it. We don't talk about it around here, so I don't ask many specific questions about the incidents.

That, sir, is an EX-Marine.

There was another incident I remember, on a commercial jet. Some fool was acting dangerous and raising a ruckus so one passenger turned to the guy in the seat next to him and asked if the gentleman would help him take the nut down. As I recall, the gentleman replied with a growl “retired Captain, Marine Corps.”

They tackled the nut and all was well. God Bless the Teufel Hunden. They are my heroes, and if I had a lick of sense when I got out of High School I would have taken my old daddy’s advice and enlisted.
